Getting from CDG to Orly

My fiancee and I are spending some time in France for our honeymoon. One point in the trip requires us to get from CDG to Orly to catch a flight three hours after we land in CDG.

Can anyone recommend a relatively cheap and efficient way to get from one to the other?

What is Air Liberte?

Thanks all.

Mike

You can find details of travel options on the aeroports de Paris website at www.paris-airports.com

Basically, your choice is between the train (RER+Orlyval) at approx 16 Euros or Air France coaches at approx 11 Euros. The train should be faster but if you have a lot of baggage you may find the coach easier. Also, if you are connecting AF to AF, you can get a free coach transfer from AF.

A taxi would set you back in the region of 50 Euros.

Thanks. That Air France coach sounds pretty good.

Mike, the three hours you mention - is that from landing at CDG and departure from Orly? I am assuming the flight into CDG is an international one; if so, from where and on what airline? And what time of day? All of this should be taken into account when planning your CDG-ORY connection.

Air Liberté is a French carrier now known as Air Lib (after the fusion of AOM, another French carrier, and Air Liberté in September 2001). Air Lib serves metropolitan France as well as destinations such as Los Angeles, Tahiti, Algeria, La Réunion, etc. Air Lib has a "shuttle" subsidiary called Air Lib Express which serves the French cities of Nice, Marseille, Toulouse, Toulon, Perpignan and Tarbes.

Air Lib is part of the Qualifyer alliance.

Note that Air Lib's flights leave from the Orly SUD (South) terminal, not Orly OUEST (West - dominated by Air France).

The CDG-ORY transfer, even when from one AF flight to another, is no longer free.

Be carefull with RER, if you arrive at CDG 2, everything is OK, you can go walking to the station. From CDG1, you need an intermediate bus, which is not nice to take...

On ARY side, you need to transfer at ANTONY with the Orlyval. Other choice is the OrlyRail, connection at St Michel-Notre Dame, less expensive, but you could need 30 mor minutes in the worst case. I would not do that.

Choice for me is between AF bus and RER+orlyval

ORY - CDG transfer

hey all...

i will be going from bordeaux --> orly then cdg --> sfo.

i have a two hour gap and was wondering if anybody had experienced transferring airports. i'm just worried i wont have enough time getting my luggage, checking-in, etc.

i called af and they said it would cost $150 to change airports or change times on the flight. i didn't notice that i was going to bod->orly ... my mistake!

thanks in advance

If everything runs fine, you might be OK, but I would not risk it if you have checked luggage.

The most reliable (timewise) transfer method is the RER B line. Assuming you arrive at ORY at 8 am, you might get your bags by 8:20, then hop on the OrlyVal automated train, be at the RER station at 8:30, your train arrives at 8:40, gets to RER CDG at 9:25 or so, then you have to transfer by bus to Terminal 1 or 2. For a flight leaving at 10 am, you are short. And that is if everything runs smoothly.

Road ( bus or taxi) transfers are messy during morning rush hours. They might run fine but then again they might not.

Why don't you fly into CDG instead? Change your AF flight on the phone , they might or might not charge you at the check in counter.

I guess you are not flying AF from Bordeaux to Orly. If so, AF should have never booked you this connection. Orly is in the SOUTH and CDG NORTH of Paris. Droneklax's plan will (most) probably not work ... and I think he knows it, he just would not like to "disappoint" with his posting.
If you indeed booked both flights with AF, AF should tell you how you can make it .. may be they check your baggage through to your final destination .. but then the AF shuttle bus want make it in one hour from Orly to CDG; you need one hour for security etc. at CDG.

You can use the Air France busses from ORY to CDG (open for all passengers) :

- every 30 min. from 6.30am to 10.30pm
- fare : €15.50 ( about $15.50 )

- Stops :
ORY south gate K
ORY west gate D
CDG 2 gates C2 and B2
CDG 2F gate 0.07 (arrivals)
CDG 1 gate 34 (arrivals)

Depending on the traffic, you need about an hour to reach CDG, but ....

Two hours is a very short connection if you need to change airport. If your flight is just a little bit delayed, it could be a nightmare to reach CDG on time.

Traffic in Paris is bad from 7am to 11am, and after 5pm.

The minimum allowed connection time between ORY and CDG is 2 hrs. and 15 mins. If AF booked you on a connection with less time than this, they should reissue your ticket without any penalty. And, surprise of surprises!, AF charges for the connection bus, except if you're flying the Concorde!

From ORY to CDG,
you can take the RER.
First the Orlycval, takes 7 minutes to Antony (departs every 5 minutes)
then the RER (every 15 minutes maxi, often less in teh day) takes 55 minutes to Roissy 2.

Then walking to the boarding is possible if you do not have too much lugage.

I would count 1h15 plus time to find the Orlyval, plus 10 minutes in Roissy 2.

That is the most efficient link, in my opinion.

Thank you all for your replys!! Somehow, this will get figured out. My mom booked my flight for me (I guess she was rushing at the time) and didn't notice the ORLY -- > CDG change. AF gave me a BOD -> ORLY flight that arrives around 10...and CDG -> SFO that leaves around 1. This actually gives me 3 hours, and not two (my mistake!). Just worried b/c I will have heavy luggage and will be traveling with a kid (my 10 year old brother). Anyways, thank you again for your help!!

It looks like you arrive in Orly at 10:20 AM and depart CDG-SFO at 1:30 PM.
That should be O.K.
Actually there are 2 flights going BOD-CDG, one at 8:30AM and the other at 10:20AM.

Yes, that is my exact schedule. Air France is reassuring me that I should be okay. I guess i'll take their word. If things go haywire, i'll just blame it on them and hope they can arrange something =)
