AF / CDG disruptions due to cloud of volcanic ash from Iceland
Due to a cloud of volcanic ash coming from Iceland, air traffic to the UK and Nordic countries is heavily impacted.

All flights to OSL, CPH and ARN are cancelled today.
Except for one early flight from ORY to LCY, most flights to the UK have been cancelled.

The entire UK airspace will be closed from 12 o'clock today. All UK airports are now affected and whatever few planes are landing are long haul. Expect major disruptions all day at least.

Holy cr*p! I did not expect this to cause such major disruptions.
What are the expectations for the next few days? Will it spread more throughout western europe? Im scheduled to fly out of AMS tomorrow morning..

Not really much information about a possible extension to the rest of Western Europe, yet
It is mentioned, though, that transatlantic flights to North America could be impacted (as flights from Europe to North America usually follow a route to the North over the UK, Greenland ...).

Thanks. Just heard on the Dutch news that over the next few hours traffic will be reduced to 50% overall. They expect airports in Holland, Germany and Belgium to completely close down later this afternoon.

According to the RTBF, air traffic over Belgium will be progressively shut down during the afternoon with complete closure around 4pm. They also stated that they expected partial closure of the airspace over Northern France. French media do not seem to relay any info of that kind.
In the UK, the closure is for now forecast to last until 6pm but a NATS spokesperson recently indicated on BBC news that it is highly likely that it would be extended beyond that.
Meanwhile, the ever-so-reliable ADP website produces an "erreur interne" with the flight departures/arrivals applet. AF.com still shows AF5024 (ORY-LCY) in 45mins time as flying whereas it clearly is not, given that LCY is closed all afternoon.

According to some reports, DGAC expects the ash cloud to reach the French coastline in Brittany and Normandy sometime between 6:00 and 8:00 PM today, Paris time.
AF reports that it has cancelled about one hundred flights to the UK, the Republic of Ireland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Northern Germany and Russia.
Apparently, the AY-operated codeshares to/from HEL have not been impacted.

For what it's worth, a spokesperson for Eurocontrol was quoted by AFP as saying that air traffic disruptions could last for two days, depending upon the evolution of the volcanic ash clouds.

I would expect longer - perhaps much longer - as the volcano is still spewing in Iceland...
