Yikes! God have mercy on the poor soul who will have to sit beside the OP the day something goes wrong with his flight. Judging from above he'll be b****ing the whole way. Get a grip on yourself man.

no offence, but OP if u knew the price of alternate carriers and delays were mounting, you could have refunded the AC tix and rebooked urself whatever airline that suited u! my advice..... no one is perfect and if you couldnt bare AC - dont fly them.....
What makes it more hilarious is that the OP is not even on the plane. He is on the ground in YUL b.....ching like crazy because s...t happened to happen onthis flight that his nephew is on.

Guess you have a big decision to make: fly private, or not at all. These days, if you refuse to deal with outsourced workers, those are pretty much your only two options.

To put things in perspective

Some teenagers have a harder time than others getting to their destination:

Did your nephew have to do any swimming during his ordeal ?

It's fun to play armchair quarterback though, especially when knowledge of the facts is limited.
Please...if people only complained with the facts....this forum would be a ghost town

i was delayed 21 hours by air canada this week -- on a YUL-BOS flight. these things happen. get over it and move on. i have..... (i'm more offended by the fact that i spent 5 hours on CRJ-200's in the process....)

the only thing that surprised me about the whole experience is that it's taken three years of flying AC about one roundtrip a month to have such a significant problem..

Happen to me a couple of times when I flew SEA-LAX on UA and connecting to AC LAX-YYZ on the red eye.

My UA SEA-LAX flight was 4 hours delayed including 1 hour on the ground at LAX as no gates were not available. This resulted me in missing my AC departure. When I went to AC, I found that I was booked the next morning. However as I had an important meeting the next day, I went back to UA and "asked them nicely" to fly me to YYZ via ORD. They put me on the LAX-ORD red-eye connecting to the ORD-YYZ on UA as well. Made back into YYZ by 9:00am.

I did use the * Alliance card to convince them to put me on the UA flight, whcih they obliged. I did have to ask assistance from a supervisor for this. But I must say UA was very accomodating. So I do think this is possible... Just need to ask nicely and if you have good info, then they will help you.

One time WAY BACK in the late 60s I was flying LH from FRA to JNB. One of the engines on the 707 or maybe it was a DC8 conked out on a scheduled stop in Nairobi.

Passengers with South African passports were put into the transit lounge and the rest of us were put up in the Hilton downtown.

I guess there must have been a shortage of replacement aircraft/seats on other airlines at the time as they were looking for volunteers to stay in Nairobi for FOUR days giving first priority to clearing out the South African passport holders in the airport transit lounge.

The offer included a free overnight trip to the game reserve, all meals in the hotel and I seem to remember £10 per day for incidentals which bought a lot of beer.

I also remember they showed a Bob Hope movie on the flight called "Call Me Bwana" dubbed in German - hilarious!

Don't have much experience with CO but delays on DL flights have been the norm with me - especially on Comair flights through CVG (ugh).

Long and short of it is that crap happens in the world of frequent flyers. We just deal with it and move on. In the case of mechanical failure, you should rightfully ask for compensation but put it in perspective, there are bigger issues to worry about in this world that we live in.

Yes, honey works so much better than vinegar ESPECIALLY when everyone is stressed out

Pretty sure LH was a 707 shop, not DC8. I remember flying on an LH 707, FRA-ZRH-Casablanca-GIG-VCP in Dec. 1972.

These things had huge and complicated flaps, which would nearly double the wing area. But then, the 727 even more. Wings started getting simpler with the 737.
