SWU and NAU usage on Tango Plus for Canada/US for Summer 2009
I can't find a link at all, but according to AC Reservations:
Systemwide and North America Upgrade certificates will be valid for domestic and transborder flights (except Hawaii, of course) on Tango Plus fares. It's an exception for flights from July 1 to Sept 7.
There is still an upgrade window of 7 days for SE, 4 days for E still applies. Upgrade window for P is 2 days.
They sure are trying hard to fill the J cabin these days.
Interesting - I was looking at the 'display only fares eligible for an upgrade' on North American fares yesterday and noticed that Tango Plus fares were being displayed. I figured there was a bug or something...

Has anyone seen a published announcement of any kind related to this?

This will be communicated in the coming days. This is not about trying hard to fill the J cabin, as Executive class demand typically slows down over the summer because less people travel for business, we thought this was a good way to reward our tier passengers by giving them easier access to the Executive class cabin over the summer. It's something we've never done before but it's a nice thing to do. This will be effective from Jul 1 - Sep 7. This will give a chance for people who usually are not able to use their SWU/NAU because they don't buy Latitude to sample the Executive class cabin.
sounds like a nightmare in the making without an official announcement to print off--hopefully a link will appear soon.
Why is it nightmare in the making? This doesn't start until Jul 1 and plan was definitely to have this official before then (on both website and member communication).

This is awesome! You are about to sell 3 tickets to my family then (maybe 6)!
There is no way I would normally buy a Latitude fare. Yet I have my entire allotment of SWU/NAU sitting there, staring me in the face. I was going to start a thread asking the FT community, does Latitude ever go on sale?
This is my first year as an Elite, so I have never in my life flown up front. My financial and life circumstances are changing so that the odds are getting higher I will be up there soon and more often. I'm the demographic you are trying to hit with this promo and it is working.
This is the type of creativity that will keep Air Canada in business.
Not a nightmare but an irritant and another example of poor customer service.
Say I'm looking at booking some flights (YOW-YHZ on August 23 to pull up a totally non-random example...) I don't need points right now because I've already made E for the year and don't have a hope in hell of making SE so I'm comparing Tango at $164 to Tango Plus at $214. No contest, I'll save the $50 and book the tickets today.
When the announcement is made, I find out I could have spent the extra $50 to gamble on an upgrade and burn one of those useless certs in my travel document folder.
There's a chance I'd be really irritated about that (since Exec lowest is currently $299.)
The above scenario won't affect a lot of people but for those it does, it will be another irritant from AC.
Actually, this post is the exact reason why I check FT before ever making a booking. I always want to have the latest information. So I wouldn't have been caught without being fully informed but others might be.
Very nice gesture. Now if I can only find a destination that is not going to be 100+F for the next two months... Might convert one of my AE award tickets into a revenue one though if the cost/benefit equation works out.

How exactly is this poor customer service? This was just recently finalized and we've just started communicating this. There was no reason for us to be withholding this if we've decided that this is a benefit that we want to offer. There will always be someone that would have booked before this change even if we annouce it on Apr 1.... so baffles me how we can look like the bad guy once again for doing something that we thought would make tier members happy. This is not like we didn't annouce the official terms and conditions of an upgrade certificate, we're just adding something extra which normally wouldn't be there for the summer....

1. OK im lost??? How can this be anything but good news? AC has let us use useless certs to upgrade! You now have a better chance of upgrading? If you dont want to upgrade you dont buy Tango+. I think you will find, like I have every airline has rules on what ticket class can upgrade so whats the big deal?
2. If your .....ing that AC has not released the news today? LOL at some point, no matter what day they release the news, someone will have bought the ticket the day before
3. I dont understand why you are complaining about J seat being $299? What its to cheap or because its cheap there will be no J class to upgrade into.
4. I never buy J seats in NA and this year at $299 + I have been buying J seats for the first time ever. I have even bought them for my staff Its a great value and I hope that AC will continue to sell J seats at a more resonable level.
OK my rant for the day, I will now fly to HKG for 15 hrs, trying out CX F service fo the first time in 10 years.
