Delta Hotels (Canada) and Air Canada Promo

Hello there all, I was hoping I could get a question answered by those who know anything about the 15% off an Air Canada flight, with a stay at a Delta Hotel.

I'm going to be flying from Boston to Halifax on the 7th of August, and will be coming back on the 16th. AC's fares have gotten pretty high all of a sudden (after a few months of nothing but promotions), but they're offering first class with a layover for $332, or direct in coach for $336. I'm going to try the first class, just to see what it's like for once.

Anyway, I know the promotion is only good on the Canadian part of the travel, not the US, so I'm not going to get a full 15% off, that's no big deal. But what I wanted to know, is if I had to stay at the Delta hotel for the entire stay of the trip, to qualify for the discount. In Halifax I've stayed at the Residence Inn, Citadel, Holiday Inn (the one downtown), the Delta Barrington, and the Westin (three times.) By far the Westin has been our favorite (and the Delta Barrington one of our least), but we'd rather be right in the middle of downtown, and I've always been partial to the Marriott brand, but I've never been able to spring for their rates. I can get advance purchase rate ($179) from the 8th until the 12th, the 13th and 14th a promotional rate of $199, followed by the 15th, $20.09.

In short: Can I stay at a Delta hotel for the 7th of August, and get the 15% discount on the Canadian portion of my Air Canada flights, on both the 7th and 16th?

Wecome to FT.
I'm not sure where the best forum for this is, but I'm sure this one isn't it. I'll move it to Air Canada and see if you can be helped there.

Why not book Residence Inn for now and wait for promotion rate from Marriott? I think the Residence Inn is only $159/night and you can cancel it without penalty until 4p.m. of your arrival day. I don't think the Residence Inn is that far from Marriott.

Triley, welcome to FT!

There is a thread here which will give you more info.

Stay at Delta Hotels and save 15% off AC flights

But to answer your question, all you need is one night at a Delta Hotel to get the discount code. It doesn't even have to be on the same trip as the flight. For instance, I have a couple of codes for 15% off from stays in Montreal and Vancouver (which I may end up giving away if I can't find a place to use them). I've already completed my trips and will use the discount in the future. Or you can book your hotel, get the discount code before you stay, and you are good to go as long as you don't cancel your reservation.

In short, the flight and the hotel DO NOT HAVE TO BE ON THE SAME TRIP. And all you need is one night to get the discount code.

Hope that helps.

P.S. Don't forget to check Delta's Websaver Rates which will get you additional Aeroplan miles.

Welcome to FT.

I live in and work here in Halifax. I would say the Delta Halifax is a good choice. It's connected by pedway to the Delta Barrington, Purdys Wharf, Casino Nova Scotia and the waterfront(Exit by the Mariott) You are only about a 3-4 minute walk from the Delta Halifax, down to the Mariott.

Just as an example, you can get the delta Halifax from August 9th to August 13th for $141/night. ( DELTA WEBSAVER http://websaver.deltahotels.com/?lang=en )

You are coming the same week as the Buskers Festival ( http://www.buskers.ca/ ) So hotels will book up quick. The festival draws people from all over and it's a great time! I enjoy it every time.

Instead of flying from Boston, have you considered driving? There is a state of the art ferry from Portland, Maine to Nova Scotia. It will be cheaper AND you won't have to pay to rent a car while in Halifax cause you can use your own. ( http://www.catferry.com/ )

Just wondering, you've mentioned you've been to Halifax a few times, why do you choose Halifax as a frequent destination place? I always like to know from an "outsiders" point of view.

One more thought Triley. As you know, the Delta code is only valid for domestic travel. So you would have to book 2 separate tickets, for example, BOS-YYZ/YUL-BOS, and YYZ/YUL-YHZ-YYZ/YUL. Surely that will end up being more expensive than BOS-YHZ-BOS (even if it's routed through YYZ or YUL) even with a 15% discount on the domestic ticket.

Thank you everyone for your input, and thank you for welcoming me. Unfortunately, my lack of having the extra money to spend, resulted in me going to Priceline and snagging the Westin, at $75 a night (I was hoping for the Marriott, of course.) But, I just wanted to take the time to answer some quick questions.

kaychiu - We've stayed at the RI before. My grandmother use to work for Marriott in the US, so I got managed to get the employee rate there, a few years back. It is nice and all, but not as spectacular as the Marriott Harbourfront. And, they're maybe a 10 minute walk from one another, depending on your pace, and how much traffic there is.

pilotboy1985YYC - I missed the festival by a week last year, and was kind of bummed about it. I didn't even realize that it was the week I booked. Thanks for letting me know! And as far as the Cat goes, it is nice and all, but quite expensive, and it'd actually take 30 minutes longer, as opposed to driving straight there. It's a shame too, because I've really wanted to try it out, since I've seen the commercials for years. But even if it were cheap, I actually don't have a car. Never really had a need for one, since I can get around using public transportation.

And honestly? I come to Halifax every few months, because my boyfriend lives in New Glasgow. Yup, three years stuck in a long distance relationship. It works, but it's hard.

margarita girl - Thank you for clearing up my questions. I knew it was only good for the domestic portion, so I didn't know if I actually called AC, if they would be able to apply the discount to that portion, without having to book the two separate tickets.

I know it's a bit of a long shot, but does anybody have an idea when the next promo code will be, since I'm not staying at a Delta, now? I'd love to be able to take another 10% off the airfare. $800 round trip for an hour flight (if flown direct) is crazy.

I know there was one that just expired yesterday of course, and then the one that was introduced here for FT members, but that's expired too.

And let me say, thank you for all your help, and being as friendly as you are.

Smile Delta Discount applies to discounted Executive Class tickets

It seems that the Delta Discount codes do not blank out the Discounted Executive Class Seat sale AC is having right now. It seems when you enter the Delta code, the fare of the discounted sale drops even further... by 15%
