AC Stopped Cheques

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience?

We were bumped off a flight from Montreal to Vancouver about a month ago and received a CAD$100 cheque each as compensation. Banked the cheques when we got home and I received notification today that all 3 of the cheques have been dishonoured!

Haven't received the reason why yet although I'm hoping AC has more than $300 in their bank account

you got an actual cheque? Or an MCO or future travel voucher? I remember I got a travel voucher years ago from NW around ten years ago that looked kind of like a cheque but it wouldn't have worked if I tried to cash it in like a cheque.

What country are you and the bank in?

I've never received a cheque for denied boarding, either cash or MCO voucher. Who gave you the cheques? What currency were they drawn in? What bank were they drawn on?

It has to be an MCO...and perhaps the OP thought that it was a cheque.

$100 MCO - holy cow...that would be VERY miserly. Bet it was a cheque, I vaguely recall that as an option in some cases.

That is my conclusion as well. Issuing real cheques at the gate/counter would probably not fit in with AC's policies for handling and authorizing financial instruments.

Back in the day it was $100 cash or $300 flight voucher for getting bumped, but that was ages ago, maybe around late '90s/early '00s

Was it signed in crayon? That should have been your first clue!

It was definitely a cheque. The options were either $200 in AC travel vouchers or $100 cash (in the form of a cheque). Took the cash as won't be back in Canada for the rest of the year.

Received a copy today of the cheque back from the receiving bank. The cheques that had been issued were old and from a closed account.

Only problem now is convincing AC to re-issue another cheque to me (from an open account lol) and cover the dishonour fees that my bank and AC's bank charged (totalling another CAD$40)

Hmmm, a batch of pre-authorized cheques. What was the date on them? Maybe they were pre-bankruptcy protection era

Glad to be wrong on my previous guess, but I can imagine the AC bureaucracy getting really confused on trying to rectify this.
