A couple weeks ago I posted about losing my luggage on a YYC-YWG-YAG trip. Fortunately the luggage was eventually returned a week later. Now last night on the return trip my luggage (along with that of a third of the passengers on the plane) has gone missing again. The baggage agent claimed that it was due to the flight being "bulked out" and that it would come on the next flight. Checking seatcounter it appears that most of the YWG-YYC flights for the next several days are either sold-out or very near to it which makes me think that the chances of them getting delayed baggage to me anytime in the near future is pretty slim.
I understand that there have been adverse weather conditions in the past several weeks and that passenger loads are heavy but surely AC should be able to get luggage to it's passengers in under a week.
Assuming that I get my bags back sometime before the end of the month is there any point in writing AC for compensation? I'm sure that there are hundreds of other people in the same situation so I'm wondering if I'll get anything more than a "canned" apology letter. I've got insurance coverage from my Aerogold Visa but somehow I really think that AC should be on the hook for something here.
Had anyone try the baggage number (888) 689-2247 with any success? Just back from YVR-YYZ-ORD. My bags never made it to YYZ for me to recheck. The bag lady in ORD is useless, and I can't connect to that number at all. Any idea?

Finally got through after 30 mins of busy signal, now I'm on hold I'm assuming for at least an hour. Yesterday wait times were around 45 mins. Lost 2 bags from YWG-YYZ-HOG. They are tracing but that's all they can tell me. Anyone know if there is another way of trying to track down luggage, I'm pretty sure it's in YYZ because the flight from YWG was delayed and we almost missed out cnx, I'm sure the bags never made it on the connecting flight.....oh the joys. I would suggest you just keep trying, I finally got through after many attempts!
Were you on a CRJ? These can only take so much luggage and at this time of year people tend to travel with twice the normal number of bags.
Jet was a CRA. I understand that there are a lot of extra bags this time of year but AC should really have some sort of a plan to deal with them. If the bags were only going to be delayed for a day I wouldn't be concerned but when it will likely take a week to get them it is much more frustrating. Surely there would be demand for a daily 319 or E90 between YWG and YYC that could carry cargo and the backlogged bags.

On the outbound flight I was told I could spend up to $500 on neccessities which I took advantage of. I suspect I could do the same on the return but at this point I'd really just rather have my stuff back.
We decided to send out "luggage" via courier. Best $ we spent. No waiting at the baggage claims, no standing in line, no worries if it will be there on the other end, if the flight IROPd it is much easier for the airline staff to move us.
The courier comes to the door - picks it up - couple days later, they come to my door, drop it off. I can track it via the #.... will not be checking bags during busy times ever again.
A friend flew to YYZ for a week over xmas, her bag with presents in it never arrived. When flying back to YVR she checked for her lost bag at YYZ before leaving and managed to find it with a ton of other bags. Needless to say the presents never made it to their intended people and she brought them all home to YVR as she was staying a few hours out of YYZ. Wonder if AC would foot the bill for mailing them now?
I don't understand how hard it is to deliver a bag to its rightful owner. Every bag I see usually has a tag with the pax address etc, would it be that hard to phone the pax?

Sure, maybe a handful... but hundreds or thousands?

After sitting on hold for an hour and ten mins I finally got an answer from AC central baggage in India! They have found our bags which are sitting in YYZ, which I guessed all along. They are attempting to send out on the next flight which doesn't leave for HOG till Jan. 8th. I am considering having them hold them in YYZ till we return on the 10th. Anyone have other suggestions? I'm afraid if they send them on the 8th that they won't make it to us in time for us to head for home.

It's a matter of them doing what they said they would do.
Last night I missed my connection in YYC and went standby. I managed to get on the next available flight to YEG but my bags didn't.
I was told they would likely be in that night - didn't happen.
I was told I would get a phone call as soon as they arrived at YEG - didn't happen.
I was told the bags would be delivered tonight at my home by 20:30 - didn't happen.
If they can't meet the commitments due to weather, excess pax, that's fine. But they can at least tell me so. I appreciate honesty far more than hearing what I might like to hear knowing full well it's not going to happen.
3 of the last 4 AC flights I've taken my bags have been lost. And, surprise surpise, luckly flight number 4 in that count I had check-in only. Back to Westjet for me, and I think I shall use my Aeroplan points for movie tickets...
I thought I had read before the holidays a news article stating that AC was going to use hand held scanners to track lost bags, resulting in tremendous time savings. If that it the case, then I should only take a few hours to at least do a first "sweep" of the piles at YVR and elsewhere, so that people can at least know the geographical whereabouts of the bag by tracing it online. The call centre is ridiculously outdated. How often do you call FedEx to track a package? There is no way it can handle the volumes of calls with acceptable wait times (>5mins) during IROPS. If it weren't for the website, I'd have spent the Holidays in a line at YVR... unable to rebook on the phone or in person...
Mind you, I am not familiar with the technology, but it is by no means new. FedEx, UPS, Puro, DHL use it to provide real-time tracking of hundreds of packages a day, and they too, like AC, are in the business of shipping cargo. Heck, even good'ol Canada Post can track packages accurately and continuously...
My guess is that AC staff are bogged down in the logistics of delivering the individual bags to a final address through courriers, which must be extremely time-consuming. But if people were at least informed of where their bag is, I'm sure many would gladly drive to the airport to pick it up themselves if it meant getting it back faster. At least that's a start, then they can focus on those living further away from the airport.
