Is that the same as the "Air Canada Sun Pass"?

No, the Sun Pass is crap. The Winter Getaway pass is for unlimited travel Tues, Sat and Sun for Jan and Feb. I really hope they bring it back too but maybe with the cuts in capacity it was also cut.
I agree, the Getaway Pass was a great promo last winter and spring. Getting an extra $1000 per person for flights that are flying anyway seems like a good way to boast their cash-flow. Promos are intended to increase awareness and loyalty and not be profitable. I personally flew more (revenue) with AC after and during the promo than I normally would have. WJ was usually that first choice but that changed to AC.
I even encouraged six others to purchase the passes and they are emailing constantly waiting for the next pass.

I agree. I purchased the flight pass for the first time last Jan. I bought it for Feb and Apr too. After that, I flew a lot more than normal (went to Greece, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Dubai)...all on AC metal where possible. I wouldn't have done this had it not been for the flight passes.
Well, the pass was available for sale in November 2007 for Jan/Feb '08, and for sale again in Feb for Apr/May. I'm personally bummed that AC didn't offer it again, because going to NYC for lunch was great, as well as seeing my clients more often than normal in FL.
We can only hope, but my gut tells me it was a one-time thing, and it's gone now.
... well it would be at least a two time thing since it was offered for 2007 and 2008. Still hoping something will be offered soon. Maybe a Feb-Mar pass since Easter is later this year?
available Jan 7th - doesn't say anything about earning miles, status or otherwise - nor does it give specifics on segment costs ('as low as $150' -could mean they'll add a ton of extras)

That's very interesting ....how did you stumble across it?
What other fees are applicable when buying a pass?
HI guys, I hope you know the answer to this,
When purchasing a pass and booking flight segments, do I have to pay taxes or any fees for each of the flight segments or do i simply pay for the pass and thats it?

Just out of curiosity - what was the winter getaway pass last year? What where the details? Was it easy to book flights using it? I've heard the Hong Kong pass can be tough to get good availability during peak periods.
I was going to book a return ticket for Chicago in March but might wait until Jan. 7th now to see what the full details are on this "escape pass". If the deal is good enough, I can think of a few places to use the other flight credits for.

Unless its changed very recently - it was only taxes (GST & PST, if applicable) on top of the pass price that had to be paid. I was very close to buying a Canada West Pass earlier in '08 but couldn't convince our purchasing dept to do it, even though it would have worked out cheaper for my travel....c'est la vie...

Basically, it was a pass for unlimited travel for either a 4 week or 8 week period, IIRC. The price also depended on whether you were within Western or Eastern Canada, and whether you wanted a "Western Pass, Eastern Pass or North American Pass". For instance, I remember an 8-week North American Pass out of Eastern Canada would have cost around $1,500.
Last year's pass was based on "K" class availability... you may want to search through the thread I quoted above to see what were people's experience re availability.

That's an intruiging find.. took a quick look, it builds on hte basis of the spring getaway pass last year (for April/May) but on the 4 one way credits at some price is substantially reduced as compared to last year's getaway passes. Last year's got me flying a ton more, hell I qualified for E and the passes got me started on it (wellnot helping but got me flying more than usual).
It might still be a good deal but not nearly as good a deal as previous. Gotta love marketing..seeing how low they can take a special like this and still make $ (can't blame them though!).
