Wonder if this pass and the bonus one qualify for the Pass Bonus elite selection? That would mean either 4 SWUs if E or P, or 4 SSWUs if SE...or bonus status miles if that was your option.
Even though in Tango and no SMs, the pass does look intriguing. The additional international one is in A-class so as noted can be upgraded and would earn status miles. So this could be a reasonable deal if one is not concerned about earning status, and has the flexibility to travel with at least a week's notice.
I can understand the March blackout period but the April blackout is just plain punitive action by AC against its customers. Together these two large blackout periods have the effect of erasing 1/3 of the pass's potential value.
The lack of states miles and upgradable fares render the pass useless for most on this board. I'm not sure who AC is hoping to attract here: Tangoers like myself or even worse the VBITs?

I just bought it online. Here are the T&C on the BONUS pass, which seems to indicate you can upgrade with an SSWU:
ps - no GST on the $199 bonus.
.......
Aeroplan Miles:
Aeroplan mile accumulation is not permitted.
This last sentence caught my attention. Odd that the A fare does not get Aeroplan miles. Was considering it only for the bonus pass as the Tango fares for US were not that good, but $199 to HK is not bad. But if there are no miles, my mileage whore side is screaming foul!

Didn't notice that, so not of much use after all. I do recall an earlier TANGO+ pass that had a flat monthly SM allocation, but still booked into A-class. So AC can fine tune AE mileage credits on fares that would otherwise earn SMs.

Easter and Spring Break, I can well understand AC's restriction. It merely foregoes the complaints that seats could not be booked with this pass, since most all Tango fares are likely gone by now and would not be available were someone to try to book with the pass.

I find it interesting how they book into Tango class fares, even when they do are not for sale. One example is the New York Pass. Its a rare day when I see Tango fares to NYC, but they are available for the Pass structure.
No status miles for the Bonus pass makes it a dud for me.
I am not sure whether I will buy one of these or not. It is not the pass I was hoping for, but for my purposes it is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. My wife and I generally do YVR twice in the winter, and usually fly WS to do that as they have the most convenient schedule for us. AC does have a convenient non-stop from YQR, but it is almost always priced quite a bit higher than the change at YYC/YEG flights so we don't bother. So, for us, the $1200 cost of the pass will get us on the non-stop and will save us about $125-$150 per YVR return per person (usually the cheapest Tango fares go for $425-450 all in these days, and very rarely a bit cheaper). That works out ok for us. The extra $398 for a long weekend on Paris or London is not too bad either. Of course it would be lovely to get status miles, and I am not sure how well I will tolerate sitting in the back of the bus on a TATL, but then again repeating the mantra that it "only cost me $199 to sit here" might take the sting out. I should get my Elite status back through regularly planned TATL's and US trips anyhow, so I am not worried about that.
The marketers certainly have whittled this thing down to make it just worth doing, though, and they are not giving much away that is for sure.
The pass is not that bad for a leisure traveller that is flexible in days and not looking for status miles. For less than $800 you get an international flight and 2 short hauls. The flight to HKG or LIM alone would cost more for a leisure traveller. Give the traveller a spare lounge pass and they should be happy.

BLASPHEMY!!!! Who is this happy traveller you speak of who settles for a cheap fare and nothing else? On FT, we want miles and upgrades too!!!!

That's why it books into a special Tango fare class since most transborder routes don't have Tango fares on offer (just vacation routes).

Curious this does not show up on any of the main pages T&Cs but does when you actually order the special bonus. Another odd application of a fare class not delivering its full potential.
