AC offers attractive savings to fly as much as you want with 'Winter Getaway Pass'

http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/a.../30/c9831.html

MONTREAL, Oct. 30 /CNW Telbec/ - Air Canada launched today a special
Flight Pass promotion offering attractive savings with the freedom of
unlimited travel this winter to destinations across Canada and between Canada
and the U.S. On sale now until December 2, 2007, Air Canada's 'Winter Getaway
Pass' is offered as a single traveller or two traveller pass, for unlimited
flying on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays with choices of three North American
geographic travel zones, and a choice of either a one or two month travel
period this winter season. Priced starting as low as $529 plus GST for a
single traveller one month pass, the 'Winter Getaway Pass' includes all
applicable airport fees and charges, complimentary seat selection and a set
amount of Aeroplan non status miles based on geographic zone and travel period
purchased. The two-traveller "Winter Getaway Pass" offers even further value
with a 10% discount compared to purchasing two single travel passes.
"Our 'Winter Getaway Pass' is a great opportunity for Canadians to sample
the freedom of unlimited travel while exploring North America themselves or
with a companion at a very good price," said Charles McKee, Vice President,
Marketing. "Since Air Canada introduced Flight Passes more than three years
ago, we have seen their popularity increase significantly with more and more
repeat purchases. We are offering the "Winter Getaway Pass" to encourage even
more customers to experience the value, flexibility and convenience that come
with travelling on Air Canada's Flight Passes."
Customers can learn more about how to select and use Flight Passes by
taking the interactive virtual tour "What's a Flight Pass?" at aircanada.com:

Choices of Three North American Geographic Zones
------------------------------------------------

Air Canada's 'Winter Getaway Pass' is valid for travel from all
67 destinations in Canada the carrier serves, with three geographic travel
zones to choose from:
Eastern Zone (within eastern Canada including Manitoba, or between
eastern Canada and the eastern US),
Western Zone (within western Canada including Manitoba, or between
western Canada and the western US, excluding Hawaii and Alaska),
North America Zone (excludes Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska and Caribbean).

Choices of Two Travel Periods
-----------------------------

Air Canada's 'Winter Getaway Pass' can be purchased for unlimited travel
on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays for either a one-month period from
January 8, 2008 to February 5, 2008 inclusive, or a two-month period from
January 8, 2008 to March 4, 2008 inclusive.

Nice to know, but be careful.....these do not earn any Qmiles . I wonder why AC is not awarding any Qmiles, and I hope these eligible for 100% Qmiles.

seems like good deal but again no Q miles.

Interesting - in the western zone the city list includes MSP, MCI, and STL yet these destinations (Minnesota, Kansas, and Missouri) are not "highlited" on the visual map, like the other destinations. Could this be a mistake? and that MSP, MCI, and STL are NOT included in the western zone. IIRC getting to MSP, MCI, and STL from the western zone requires a cnx in YYZ, which of course is out of the western zone.

Anybody else notice this.

This is a great deal. Too bad I already have a trip booked in Jan, otherwise I'd jump at this oppportunity.

Four weekend trips to see North America for so little. This is particularly great in eastern Canada to go to NYC/BOS/ORD for a weekend when regular prices of 1 round trip can be more than the pass!!!

TOP 5 reasons to "Pass" on this pass!

1) Tango K class! You may find very poor availability.

2) No status miles at all! - You can't upgrade at all!

3) 75$ change fee per segment to change your mind

4) You can only travel on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

5) "These terms and conditions may change at any time without notice and other conditions may apply"
Which to AC means that they can change the travel days from Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays to NONE!

OTOH, Priced starting as low as $529 plus GST for a single traveller one month pass ain't a bad value regardless of the missing perks.

I suspect it is GST at time of purchase - not time of flight ... so 6%.

Just got this email back from Customer service about this pass:

Additional demand from our non-pre-paid pass customers has created some significant pressure on our capability to offer travel on Tuesday, Saturday and Sundays.

In an effort to maintain our ability to capture the full revenue potential of all our flights, new online functionality has been introduced in order to remove Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday as travel days for your Winter getaway pass.

While I appreciate and regret that this may disappoint you, this new policy is to be able to accommodate the customer who has not given us money in advance.

Announced today ... 5% does not come into effect until Jan 01. Cannot see how you can pay for something before Jan 01 and pay 5% tax on it.
