I love the concept, but I hate the price

If one assumes an "all in" average Tango Plus ticket price of $500, this would mean you would have to make 13 round trips over the nine week period for this pass to begin to pay off. With apologies to a few of the guys who hit SE on segments, I'm not sure many people really travel frequently enough to make this pass pay.

The price point could be of some interest to me if I could buy ONE 30-day window ($3,500) of my liking and concentrate my travel in that timeframe.

The concept is clever (especially the chosen "low season" travel period of October/November when more seats are likely to be empty despite recent record load factors).

My guess is this is a trial balloon and AC will likely play with pricing over the coming year to find the optimal price point that meets with appropriate custoemr acceptance.

One last point, while I understand and agree with the idea of charging for bookings that are not cancelled prior to flight time, charging a change fee for same-day standby is penny-ante stuff and not likely to endear this product to the people most likely to try it.

Great product, I hope we see more of this. I would definitely buy one of these in September if there was more opportunity to upgrade. However, SSWU's at the gate sounds like a real PITA.

Well just for fun, I figured out the theoretical maximum for this is:

508740 status miles (2 RTs per day YVR-YYZ)
23:50-07:15 YVR-YYZ
08:30-10:27 YYZ-YVR
11:30-18:54 YVR-YYZ
20:10-21:57 YYZ-YVR
rinse repeat (emphasis on RINSE!)

plus 100% (for existing SEs who chose Package 3) bonus miles
508740 miles

plus threshold bonuses at 150, 200, 250 and 300K status miles
35000
40000
75000
150000

2496 (1 mile per $3 dollar spend at ac.com)
11235 (1.5 mile per $1 dollar spend as AMEX platinum)

TOTAL 1,331,211 Aeroplan miles

Of course you would feel (would you still feel) like crap but you might make it into the Guinness book of world records

Use up a couple of SSWUs along the way to make a few flights enjoyable!

Anyone up for the challenge?

Would require 61 days continuous flying with 8340 miles earned per RT, 2 RTs per day.

Perhaps we could call this the zombie run . . .

Total value at .07/mile, just shy of $93000.00.

Total value at .03/mile, just shy of $40000.00

Try a dozen dash-8 flights and the effect may be very similar.

I don't agree that it's a great product. It has very limited appeal, perhaps to those who travel weekly and on very short notice.

What I would rather see is a North American pass that gives me a fixed number of segments over a year (10 or 20) and the ability to upgrade without certs, similar to the latitude passes already available. If the price point was right *that* would be a great product.

Well I did say rinse before repeat

(one of the advantages of being an SE already, access to YVR MLL lounge and showers, not enough time in YYZ)

I figured someone might do this on contract to Air Canada as an advertising gimmick!
