I didn't know about FT merchandising, thanks for that: I just ordered my 2 tags

Wow, a FF too. Apparently he flies more than 100,000km.

I drive to Toronto to fly to Europe normally as it is usually half the price plus a better selection of options.

Have you tried the International lounge at YUL - it is very good (but you can only access for the flight to Europe).

As I live in PDX, all my Asia trips go through YVR on AC. Company policy doesn't allow Business or First but does allow Premium Economy and the AC PE is so much better that a crappy E+ seat on UA. Coupled with the UA hub being SFO, which is IMHO one of the worst airports for delays and cancellations (esp. West coast connector flights), going AC is a no-brainer.

Can't say I agree on the connections through YVR being easy. Yes you pre-clear customs and immigration in Canada but the lines at immigration last month were staggeringly awful. It took me >1 hour to get through immigration, then passport control then another TSA circus with no Pre on top of that.

If you're eligible for NEXUS membership, it's $50 for 5 years, and would likely solve all your issues.

How long until the US carriers complain?

I mean ... the only way passengers would fly foreign carriers is because of some sort of unfair competition. That revenue should fairly belong to them ... /sarcasm

Shhhhh. The US3 are too busy fighting each other, the occasional pax and complaining about the ME3.

Let's see ... Seattle Joe needs to get to an important business meeting in Delhi.

If he flies DL to AMS to connect to KLM, He's a good, loyal 'Merican
If he flies AC via YVR, He's savvy
If he flies EK via DXB, He's one small step above a traitor.

I'd probably go for AC in that case. You get off the long flight and you're there.

That being said, SFO/LAX probably have workable options too.

The essential points from the article:
- cheap fares due to currency exchange
- tighter connection times on a airline notorious for poor OTP.

The positive PR of this article in the U.S. from a source such as WSJ must be considerable.
