Anyone want avian hitchhiker YOW-YVR?

"The Ottawa Valley Wild Bird Care Centre is hoping to find a bird lover willing to accompany a wayward Bullock's oriole to Vancouver, where it will be acclimatized and released into its normal habitat."

Basically, they need someone flying on AC from YOW to YVR to bring the bird as carry-on and hand over to someone who will pick it up in Vancouver.

If I were flying that route, then I would definitely bring it on board and tell everyone it was my emotional support oriole.

Could one get a tax receipt for all or a portion of the cost of the travel?

If you can write it off, it might make ANY fare become a MR

That's going to be what, a 40% discount?

Flying YYZ to YVR in PY on Monday July 31st if the bird can make it to YYZ?

On Tuesday I flew UA from LAX to SBA and the young lady over from me had a bird on the flight. Cute thing and she was nice until i said they taste like chicken!

From the link.......

"Are you flying from Ottawa to Vancouver soon?
Is it an Air Canada flight?"

My question, why does it have to be an AC flight?
Is the CBC setting up AC for another failure?

I suspect the bird sanctuary would be a charity, and by flying the bird, one would be donating in kind, which could potentially generate a tax receipt.

I could certainly see the effective discount provided by a tax credit helping an FTer make a run for this.

Depends on where one lives and what the rules are there. In AB, if I recall correctly, donations over $200 (aggregate for the year) get a 50% tax credit, which could make it attractive to someone as an MR, potentially. Not sure about other provinces.

In AB (and federally), the credits aren't tied to income (other than being non-refundable, i.e. one needs to have taxes payable against which to offset the credits), but I don't know about other provinces.
