1.3 million miles here, I was looking at the opportunity within the next couple of years to redeem a once-in-a-lifetime family RTW.
Quite worried that the rush to the exits will create issues.

ouch, ouch, ouch
so Aeroplan can't redeem on OTHER *A carriers? .....this is worse than Air Miles
Any Aeroplan points they already have, however, will still be available to exchange for Air Canada flights, "with pricing competitive with other third-party rewards programs."
That's not the case for flights on Air Canada's Star Alliance partners, which includes United Airlines, Air China, Lufthansa and many more. After 2020, rewards for flights on other Star Alliance partners will only be available through the new Air Canada program.
Aeroplan customers also won't be able to convert their points into Air Canada's new program.

Seeing as how there are likely many people here with millions of miles that can't be burned in time, what would you guys think about a site that links miles holders with buyers of those miles? I am thinking of a site where:
1 - buyer comes in and posts their wish: 2 tickets from Toronto to Vancouver on March 7 return March 13
2 - Miles holders submit a bid to book that ticket, including taxes/fees with their AP miles
3 - customer agrees on a bid, submits payment to miles member via online payment platform using a CC (Swipe or some other transaction payment provider to process it, costing about 2.5% + service fee to web site operator of say $50)
Thoughts? Does this violate Aeroplan's TOS?

Maybe Air Canada will call the new program "Altitude". They did drop a hint that the Altitude branding will be retained in some fashion and that would give continuity.
Above cited from After Spinning Off Its Aeroplan Frequent Flyer Program in 2002, Air Canada Will Start a New One
Personally I think using a famliar name would be a good idea.

Air Canada said that the company will continue the Air Canada Altitude elite status levels and their associated range of travel privileges and miles accumulated with Aeroplan will continue to count towards million-miler status...

I don't think so. The cost of establishing its new program is pretty low, and buying Aimia entails taking on the huge points liability. This way they start with a clean slate.

I think this is what we can expect come 2020:
-No more fixed mileage redemptions on Aeroplan (like many already predicted). Members can only redeem via market fares. This is a huge punishment for those who only earn through credit cards
-AC significantly ramps up the mileage levels required for Altitude redemptions when it begins managing its own FFP in house. (See DL for SkyMiles redemption changes in the past couple of years.)

Overdue, i think this really benefits AC. Too many people think Aeroplan and AC are same thing. Well that has not been true for years and this break from Aeroplan/Aimia will drive that home.
Now when can we finally get separate forums , also overdue. Let all the Aeroplan whining happen on it's own.

Yeah, I do the same (but every 12-18 months), but I think next year's might be my last. I don't know that any CC perq might get me as much value, actually, but I'll that's a question for another forum.

1) Like many others, I need to make a bigger effort to use all my Aeroplan miles before the deadline.
2) Looks like they plan on keeping the MM program until at least some time past June 2020.

I'm surprised that no one is postulating that this is a great opportunity for AC to blow up Altitude and greatly "enhance" it.
It'll also be interesting to see what Aeroplan evolves into - first off, the name will make no sense anymore since it will have nothing to do with flying. This move is going to generate tremendous confusion in the marketplace.
From a business point of view, I really can't see the small Canadian market needing another points program either.
Interesting times ahead.

Not surprising in the least and why people have been saying FOR AGES (as long as I have been a member here at least) to burn the points as fast as you could churn them. Thank you AE for the many LH F and BR J flights, was a blast!
