I always find it fascinating how AC forms partnerships/sponsorships.
With hundreds of well known chefs, sommeliers, and designers, how did these 4 get selected to represent our nations flag carrier?

It's also just not that expensive given the timing that they've chosen:
- 61x 737, need to be painted anyway = free
- 45x C-series, need to be painted anyway = free
- 777, constantly rotating for D-checks, which involves a new paint job anyways, mostly free
- 320, 767, leaving the fleet, can limit painting to those remaining and can attempt to time them to D-checks
- E90, 330, 787, going to cost money as I don't think they are up for D-checks anytime soon
- Regional can be painted as checks come due
Done two years ago, this would have been a huge cost as everything would need to be done. But this is a perfect moment to refresh the brand with a lower cost than usual.

Also the amount of paint does impact fuel efficiency. If there is more paint the long term fuel burn of the plane will go up, less paint it will go down. This + or - could possibly have a larger total $$ than all other costs you have listed when considered total time between paint jobs and savings/spend on fuel due to the change.

I can see that there is an element of representing various provinces, Hawksworth from BC, Bates from Ontario, Rivest from Quebec (she was also ranked 2nd best somelier in the world in 2012 in Tokyo which IMO makes her a worthy contender for the "head somelier" position at AC)

I am not a AC shareholder. I may like them as an airline, but airlines are not great investments. That said, if I were a shareholder I would just view all of this as one big publicity stunt.
The secret is being used to build up suspense among the press. There are probably reporters who have put a bit of effort to get to see an earlier version of it. That gets them more invested in reporting on it.
The paint job is basically a big billboard bouncing about in front of airport windows the world over providing more brand recognition.
Sounds like good business to me.

Air Canada have gotten into the habit of scheduling the release of weaker quarterly numbers on Fridays but releasing always stellar 3Q numbers mid week to ensure maximum media coverage.
Do YOU watch BNN or read the business section on Friday night, Saturday or Sunday?

The new livery is actually already shown on their Facebook page.
I didn't want to post the pictures of the aircraft here in case you like to experience the unveiling in a few minutes and be surprised.
I like it, looks very clean and crisp, lots of white though.
