Great idea for a thread!
While I didn't know it at the time, I sat across from pmax on a LAS-YYZ flight a couple of years back.

Over the past few years I have asked several people I thought might qualify as FTers (sitting in J, seemed to know what they were doing) if they were on Flyer Talk. So far, I'm batting .000. But that guy in the scruffy clothes three up and one over, or that woman behind me with the Bose headphones and the scowl, I think they were FTers, I really do.
So, short of attending all the Dos or getting into more successful idle chatter, how do we figure out who is one of us?
And yes, it has occurred to me that veteran FTers I have approached just took a look at me and decided, oh nooooo, I will not say yes to that dude, I will deny everything.

The only person to ask me if I was an FTer was an AC Service Director.

cooleddie sat behind me on a flight years ago and saw me on FT over my shoulder
drunkcargo sat beside me on an EWR-YVR flight last year, but we only realised at the YVR Do several months later that we were both FTers

I have not connected on flights with FTers. Did meet a few at a YYZ DO. Met rankourabu in a lounge. I do have my yellow gaudy FT tag on my backpack so feel free to say hi.

Some off the top of my head in no particular order and not a complete list (unplanned and met along the way):
parnel
taupo
acysb87
Empress and Andrew Yiu
Nordsfan
YEG_SE4Life
jaysona
Going nowhere fast
Some listed above I have bumped into more than once in very random fashion somewhere on this planet.

Funny, the one time I met the penguin, he was going absolutely nowhere in a hurry.
I'm the furthest from FT celebrity status, but I was also happy to be in PHX this past week. We probably haven't bumped into each other because I'm often sitting ten rows and boarding four zones behind you.
While I'll contest 24left's assertion that every day was beautiful (you weren't there on Monday), Saturday was a glorious day at casa del 3MM.

That could be it. Maybe they see my 2009 vintage Elite tags -- hey, I will replace them when they fall off -- and turn away.
A couple of years ago a guy at a local event started chatting with me about FT. He had figured out who I was, which is not all that difficult. But that does not count as an encounter in an airport or on a plane.
