Baggage check through to final destination
I am interested to know whether there are standard operating procedures with "baggage check through to final destination." I am hoping some of the experts on this board can chime in with their experiences.
I have a flight today arriving in Frankfurt at 19:45. I have a 22 hour connection in Frankfurt allowing me to spend tomorrow in Frankfurt to take in some sights.
Since the time between connecting flights is greater than 12 hours and also because it's an overnight, I automatically assumed I would have to collect my bags in FRA, then check-in again for my flight tomorrow evening. To my pleasant surprise, I was told my bags have been checked-through to my final destination (YYZ).
Is this expected? Or was I lucky?
Thanks!

If its a legal connection, more modern airports in EU can handle the request in taking care of your luggage even for overnight. The only exceptions are UK and French airports where you have to collect your bags.
