A330-300 Fleet Overview

AC currently has two configurations of 333:
  • Dream Cabin (16 aircraft): Latest 3-class configuration in line with the 787 and 777 fleets (seat map)
  • The "Merlions" (2 aircraft): ex-Singapore Airlines 2-class configuration (seat map), which are expected to be reconfigured to the Dream Cabin.
    • Important note: the front cabin on these aircraft is an angle-flat product in a 2-2-2 layout that was SQ's "regional" business class. On flights within North America, AC sells it as J; on international flights, they sell it as PY. These aircraft do not have the standard AC PY cabin
    • Since October 2023, these aircraft primarily operate YYZ>BOG>YUL triangle, and YUL<>LAX.

This makes me sad because the middle J seat in the back mini cabin is the best classic J pod on the AC fleet.

I've sat in it a few hundred times, it's got extra room.

AC's 789's are 30-31" pitch (mostly 30"). The few 788's in use remain at 31" (all new deliveries are the stretched 789 variant now).

It is a great airplane to work and had always hoped that the Company would have acquired more.

hey ACYYZ/SD what makes you say that the A330 is a great plane to work with?

From a working point of view - well laid out spacious galleys, supplies always within reach, pax:lav ratio is decent, have experienced few mechanicals on this aircraft and love the solid ride. Only drawback is the lack of centre bins in the "A" cabin, but the decision was made early on to keep the cabin more airy and avoid the feeling of being boxed in. That was before the days of cabin bag mania. Having said that -- we always work it out.

Agreed, I have waxed nostalgic about the AC 333 mini-J several times in this forum. Favourite seat on my favourite bird. Even Y was (is?) comfortable and you would get the extra J main courses as an elite sitting in the first Y rows, at least on 870/871 in the early 2000s. Should be long enough ago to not get anybody fired by AC for doing a good job!

They should have bottled that service and layout, was a winner and pretty consistent across flights which was unusual for AC.

Finally from the plane geek in me, that wing and the Rolls engines was something else at the time from an aesthetic standpoint, not qualified to comment on performance obviously.

I have to say I always enjoyed the airy feeling it gave, and rarely (if ever?) had an issue with my bags, so in my books it was a good choice. I can see from an SD's point of view it would be a worry though!

Have sat in Y on the 333 a number of times and it is definitely one of the most comfortable Y seats on AC Aircraft, perhaps with the exception of the Embraer's. Especially when you're lucky enough to get a "2" to yourself.

On my latest YVR/YUL return, I saw a family of three moved up to the main J cabin (quite happily), and on the return a single gentleman was moved up. None of these people seemed angry.

I've seen it several times actually.

My understanding is that most seats on the 789 have 31" pitch with 30" pitch being used for rows 18-29 HJK due to presence of the lav in front of door 3R. 36 out of 247 Y seats is hardly "mostly".

(Not implying that AC's Y on the 787 is spacious mind you.)

If J and PY has new seats, but Y has old seats, how would the IFE system work? Don't they have to replace the IFE in Y seats to ensure consistency? Then wouldn't they have to replace all the Y seats?

Edit: nvm just saw J is staying the same. Ignore my post.

I asked the same thing up thread. The question is still valid (and unanswered)... They're not likely to use the old IFE in the new PY seats.

There are many more 30" pitch seats. The last few ABC rows of seats in the front Y cabin are 30", and most of the ABC/HJK rows in the rear Y cabin are also 30". Most of the DEG Y seats seem to be 31".

The information is buried in the massive 787 thread.

Do you think they will replace the carpets, and give the cabin a thorough cleaning ?

Are these aircraft expected to stay in the fleet post 2020? If they're leaving J the same, then there can't be a long term expectation.
