When to expect a hot meal and a quick snack?

I usually do evening flights but I'm not sure when to expect a hot meal and when to expect some quick snack.

Here are a few examples:

AC8576 YVR/YXE CRA 20:50 snack
AC8575 YXE/YVR CRA 18:30 meal
AC255 YEG/YVR 320 21:35 snack
AC1119 YYZ/YXE 22:15 320 hot meal (I'm on it with Gogo wifi)

Any pattern? Main line vs express? Air craft?

Thank you in advance

Precisely this. Air Canada specs out meals based on flight duration. The snack/meals you (the OP) mentioned makes sense.

I really hate the cold plate choices for Air Cannada express flights, such as YYC-IAH or YYZ-IAH. A hot sandwich is all I wanted, but they could never do it. Pathetic...

My understanding is that there is no oven on a CRJ .

The CRA does not have an oven. The E75 and every mainline aircraft does.

So that explains the hot/cold difference.

The rest is based on flight time. 2+ hours on mainline always gets you a hot meal.

Breakfast hours on everything other than YYZ-YOW (I think?) with an oven gets you a hot omelette.

Good point yyz_atc_qq, and thank you superangrypenguin for confirming, and Canadiancow for the details.

YVR/YXE and YVR/YEG are both less than 2 hours, YYZ/YXE are over 2... That explains it.

There is no J class on CRJ, 10 J on CRA but no oven.

However the cold breakfast I had on CRA was amazingly tasty. (May be I was too hungry? ) It was cranberry flatbread with swiss cheese and turkey cold cut I think? Have you tried lespoir?
