If you selected the lower requalification level?

My friend has been a S100K for many years, and selected the lower requalification earlier this year. My friend is currently at 92K miles, and will end the year with 96K status miles (90K on AC, and 16K on *A, non AC metal, i.e. LH, LX, UA, etc). He/she will re-qualify for S100K for 2016, with 96K status miles right, and does not need to aim for 100K status miles, right?

I am confused - how can 90K status miles on AC + 18K status miles on Star alliance carriers not equal 108K status miles, rather than 96K status miles?

But strictly speaking - AC looks at status miles (AQS) for requalification/qualification of status; not total Aeroplan miles. So if your friend only has 96K status miles by midnight Dec 31, he will NOT attain SE status.

That's incorrect -- OP never said the friend has Aeroplan miles, they're clearly talking about status miles. And their friend picked the 95K re-qual level. So if the friend has 96K by December 31st at midnight, he/she WILL attain SE status, given that 90K were on AC.

Sorry a typo - 90 + 18 is 108; not 118.

Even with the 95K lower requalification level, 90K + 18K is still over 100K - so the lower requalification level is not required.

I do not see how the OP can say 90K + 18K = 96K.

Sorry. I should clarify, on December 31, 2015, my friend will have a total of 96,000 status miles (80K on AC metal + 16K on LH, LX, UA, etc).

My friend selected the lower requalification level in January 2015, which clearly states that my friend only needs 95K AQM or 90AQS to requalify.

Given the above, will my friend get S100K for 2016?

Now your post makes more sense. You made the same typographical error I made.

He will indeed get the SE status; having done this myself, the notification by AC of your friend re-qualifying with his SE status is not quite as quick by this mechanism as is via the process of attaining 100,000 AQMs directly.

I still can't figure out the math on this. To me the question makes sense but the OP math has me confused.

Typos. 80K on AC, not 90K per the OP, plus 16K on *A = 96K AQM. OP corrected the typo in post #7.

I see, in that 7th post he also answered his own question.

Guess this one has been solved
