Air Canada's new Altitude status challenge
Looks like Air Canada finally has caught up and is now giving challenges out. From a report on statusmatcher:
But it seems hit or miss because there are still recent reports of people getting full matches provided they have an AC booking, so still at AC's discretion whether they fully match you or hand you a challenge.
The response time to requests is still weeks though.
"Congratulations, you are now eligible to reach a higher Altitude status with an Altitude Challenge.
As of June 16th, 2015, if you earn 18,500 Altitude Qualifying Miles (AQM) or 18 Altitude Qualifying Segments (AQS) on flights operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Express or Air Canada rouge over the next 90 days, you’ll be eligible to enjoy Altitude Elite 50K status through February 28, 2017."

To reach a "higher" status, would one not have to already hold a lower status?

In which case I would refuse to do this as I am not flying the 77P (as OWE and someone whose *G is lapsing in Nov with no intent to renew.)

Is this a good match? Is 25K worth it?
what's the cheapest way to achieve this out of YYC?

Not enough information to warrant a solid discussion. Is the person in OP's message already *G or another airline's equivalent? Or even higher? As cow suggested, we do not know how many AQM/AQSs they have already accumulated to date.
Also... no one lies on the internet.
