Air Canada's new Altitude status challenge

Looks like Air Canada finally has caught up and is now giving challenges out. From a report on statusmatcher:

"Congratulations, you are now eligible to reach a higher Altitude status with an Altitude Challenge.
As of June 16th, 2015, if you earn 18,500 Altitude Qualifying Miles (AQM) or 18 Altitude Qualifying Segments (AQS) on flights operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Express or Air Canada rouge over the next 90 days, you’ll be eligible to enjoy Altitude Elite 50K status through February 28, 2017."
But it seems hit or miss because there are still recent reports of people getting full matches provided they have an AC booking, so still at AC's discretion whether they fully match you or hand you a challenge.

The response time to requests is still weeks though.

Wow that's an easy match

Fly to south Africa in Y and you are almost there.

Edit: nvm. Must be on Air Canada. In that case fly to HK twice.

"Congratulations, you are now eligible to reach a higher Altitude status with an Altitude Challenge."

To reach a "higher" status, would one not have to already hold a lower status?

Oh my god, they responded to your request in Nov 2014 in Aug 2015?

Thanks for outlining the full details, though.

In which case I would refuse to do this as I am not flying the 77P (as OWE and someone whose *G is lapsing in Nov with no intent to renew.)

Is this a good match? Is 25K worth it?
what's the cheapest way to achieve this out of YYC?

Congratulations, you are now eligible to reach a higher Altitude status with an Altitude Challenge.
As of September 24th, 2015, if you earn 9,250 Altitude Qualifying Miles (AQM) or 9 Altitude Qualifying Segments (AQS) on flights operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Express or Air Canada rouge over the next 90 days, you’ll be eligible to enjoy Altitude Prestige 25K status through February 28, 2017.

I wouldn't bother unless it fits into your regular travel patterns.

25K gets you priority check-in.

That's about it.

I guess the lounges aren't full enough yet.

Apparently not!

In addition, apparently we aren't a burden enough on their program!

And eupgrades. Although you only get 20 credits, the Summer eupgrade promotion allowed me to upgrade multiple times.

Not enough information to warrant a solid discussion. Is the person in OP's message already *G or another airline's equivalent? Or even higher? As cow suggested, we do not know how many AQM/AQSs they have already accumulated to date.

Also... no one lies on the internet.

Maybe they have looked at where people are placing this year and realized a lack of mileage runs.
