There's a bit more to it if the guy was obviously drunk and staggering up the jetway. What if he then got in his car and drove away? You should report this to AC. The SD should have cut this clown off long before he got totally bombed.

(Granted in that case if I recall it was a private plane not commercial flight. However the point still stands)

I agree. We are just past the 1 year anniversary of having a family (including 3 children) torn apart by a someone who was over served on their flight and subsequently got into their vehicle.

I've been asked if I'm driving maybe twice.
And one of those times was after enough drinks that I'm not sure what would have happened if I'd said "yes".

There was a guy sitting in front of me who was inhaling his drinks and the FA asked if he was driving. He replied that he uses a car service and he'd be happy to show her his reservation.
Good for him for not being offended and clearly being able to answer the question. Good for her for having asked.

Because they never ask after 1. They ask after 8.
But offering to show a reservation? "My friend's picking me up." "I'm taking Uber." etc.
Does asking the question absolve them of any liability? Or is it just for the 1 in a million who would have had 10 drinks if they hadn't been asked, but will now cut themselves off after 2?

My typical response when I'm asked this question is to say "no", and it's usually with a laugh.

I have no idea why he offered, but he did and that is fine.
I do not have the professional knowledge to know the answer to your question of AC liability.
