At 3cpm for an Aeroplan point, who in their right mind would do that??
Apparently more than 1 person. Did you read the post above yours?

An AE mile and a MR mile isn't the same thing. I had my reasons.

This gets the bulk of my cc spend. Not much point for me racking up more aeroplan miles on a credit card when I'm already sitting on a million - although arguably as SE they are worth more than 2 cpm.

I decided to work the system last year to get points to take my other half and I to Japan and Hong Kong fully on points, business class, which we're doing in September.

- 50,000 points from getting an Amex Platinum card
- We bought into Disney's Vacation Club and charged on the Amex. That shifted us from 1.25 points per dollar to 1.5.
- I also have a CIBC Visa Infinite card
- Flights back and forth between YYZ and DFW, PDX
- Bonuses from said flights
- 100 points a month from CIBC
- Fill ups at Esso

After booking the tickets, I still had 40k+ points, and now at almost double that with flights and business trips. 40k more and I've got our winter vacation covered too.

You should've got 60K from AMEX Platinum (CAD) if you used a referral

Anyway, the good offers now are 40K from Biz Gold, 25K from Gold, both FYF

I HATE missing out on Aeroplan miles. But, when I come to these forums, I see I am surely missing out.

I churn Amex cards annually on cards with no fee for first year - this nets me 25k points. I also do ALL my shopping (groceries, gas, etc) on my Infinite Visa which nets me a nice monthly sum. Heck, I even shopped at Sobey's for the flyer bonus items (gone now...). I've even been to Esso once in a while to grab their $3=1 mile "offer".

So, is there some central thread that offers us relative newbies the greatest deals to rack up the miles? Some place where we can see the latest and greatest earning ideas?

I suspect my annual churn of Amex cards is not as productive as it could be.

Any thoughts/recommendations are welcomed!

This thread would quickly de-rail if we get into this topic, so the best suggestion would be for you to hop over to the Milesbuzz Canada thread, and look at the wiki at the top of the page.

Or, for Amex specifically, there's the Churning Amex in Canada thread, also look at the wiki

Current FYF cards that offer Aeroplans or Amex MR points (convert 1:1 to Aeros) are:
1. Amex Gold Rewards
2. Amex Biz Gold Rewards
3. TD Aero Visa Infinite
4. TD Aero Visa Platinum

You can see the welcome offers, spending requirements etc, at those wikis. Or...just ask.

Do we now get into the topic of car churning?

I'm about 90% AC flying
9% CC signup
1% CC spend (I cancelled the Amex AP gold before renewal)

So far I haven't converted a single MR point into any program. Although the intention is to have my wife fly 4 TATL J's per year on points going forward. That will pretty much turn my yield into a break even going forward, including MR points.

Yes. Told salesman after I made my deal. Initially allowed $10,000 but I declined. Went home and already had a voicemail they would do the whole $22,000 on Visa.
