Austrian vs LH vs AC - YYZ to CDG in J or F

I'll be flying to CDG in the coming week. Here are my options...wanted to get your feedback on my best option!?

YYZ to CDG
Austrian OS72 business class
Lufthansa LH471 in business
Lufthansa LH 471 in First
Air Canada in business

I wasn't aware that Lufthansa offered both business and first as I was under the impression that many airlines had converted to a two tier system with economy and business only?

I've flown Air Canada business Transatlantic before and enjoyed the pods but have nothing to compare it to?

All three options mentioned above are available to me and number of Aeroplan points and YQ charges are a non issue....Which do you recommend?

Well, if miles and YQ are no problem, then I'd go with LH F.
I guess you'd be flying YYZ-FRA/MUC-CDG if you go with LH...in this case you can also access the FCL/FCT in FRA/MUC...so if I were you, LH F in a heartbeat for me.

Yes...YYZ-FRA-CDG

If comparing J between the options mentioned would you have a recommendation? Just in case the availability is an issue on the day I'm flying with LH F I may have to choose a J seat.

If flying in J, I'd go with AC because:
1) it's a direct flight
2) YYZ-CDG is operated by the 787. This bird features AC's newest J seats, which are IMHO better than OS & LH J seats.

Service and food are probably better on OS & LH, but for me, the seat itself is the biggest factor when considering flight options.

Ummm...how does one go about booking J/F for a flight on points - next week ???

Its usually a challange to get them booked almost a year out.

Just curious....

If you have no problems paying the fees to fly LH or AC, you can usually find something last minute. In the OP's case, for instance, there's LH availability pretty much all of next week, and OS availability on most days.

For a non-scamcharge airline? You usually need a bit more time - but I did manage to book 2 J seats on Swiss in October for travel in January. And last summer's LOT/TK flights were booked in February - 5 months out. So even for high season you don't have to book 11 months ahead - if you're flexible, that is.

You can use Market Fare.

That being said, I just checked for the first week of December and there are lot of choices.

Is there a bug with LH availability?

LH F (YUL-MUC anyways) is usually only available 7 days out.

Agree with the others - LH F if available; if not, AC J. OZ/LH J hard product behind new AC J.

#1 choice LH F, if points truly don't matter.

With YYZ-CDG going to the AC 787 DEC01, and those are way better than the older AC pods which you have experienced. But for me the nonstop would make it a no brainer anyway.

+1, sadly AC 787 becomes 77W after Dec
e.g. May 2015, when I checked, was 77W, with $400 YQ one-way!!!

Some people will see 90k points and $1000+, and say f it.

You are essentialy spending 90k points for an upgrade on a short flight.

Austrian long haul food is excellent, probably the best business class food.

Lufthansa first class is fantastic, both in flight and on the ground.

However, Austrian and Lufthansa connector flights intra-Europe business class is just an economy class seat, with middle seat blocked.

Air Canada direct flight is the most convenient.

Your choice.

I have personally flown all these options, except new AC 787, and I would take LH F.

Done! Thanks for all the feedback...went with LH in F...I have a connection in FRA and can't wait to try the First Class Terminal!!

Any advice on which lounge I should use in YYZ before my departure?

I'm assuming I have access to the Maple Leaf Lounge since I'm flying first class with a Star Alliance partner?

I also have an Amex Platinum which gives me access to Plaza? Not sure

And I have a Priority Pass Prestige which I believe gives me access to the same as my Amex??

Which do you prefer?
