If she ever decided to be a pilot, she should not have to be exposed to any bull like this. I spoke with one female pilot telling her it was great to see AC hiring so many females. They (both pilots were female on this flight) were open and engaging in speaking with me, and I couldn't help but think what an asset they were to AC; then to hear about crap like this. Unbelievable.
I don't know whether it's a problem or not. What I am saying is that the CBC has chosen to air the concerns of 1 pilot out of a total of 150 female pilots at Air Canada.

The female pilot on the other forum said she was contacted by the CBC but because she said that she had never seen porn on the flight deck and had never felt harassed, her opinion was ignored. The CBC failed to mention that.

By the way, I just checked the other forum. Pilots are saying they haven't seen porn on the flight deck in years ("over 20 years").

I normally don't like to copy from other forums but here is a quote from someone I can only assume is a pilot:

"Never have seen it or heard about it at work other than the bulletin and news reports.

I think squeaky wheel is the case here...

I think we don't have enough information to say that its not a problem. With 3,000 (or so) AC pilots, and 150 of them (or so) being female, the Alpha male conditions for such an event to occur, are high.

So they are essentially saying that the female pilot is lying? I don't buy it. Why would she lie? In terms of quantity, 1 on these would be too many.

Maybe she's a man-hater? Maybe she's just crazy? Maybe she has performance issues and is doing this to save her career? Maybe she's trying to score $$$ from a lawsuit? Why does anyone fabricate stories? Who knows.

It's possible she could be telling the truth, but there some inconsistencies in her story. First she described it as being violent hardcore pornography. Then it turns out to be just those escort business cards Mexicans hand out on the Las Vegas Strip. Inappropriate - sure, but IMO it's a huge stretch to cry violence and sexual harassment over that.

Pilots are a very professional work group. I have a hard time believing there's this underground porn sharing ring among male pilots at mainline AC. Besides, nobody trades porn anymore - that ended after the 90s

I am more curious why CBC's super-duper investigative team can't "uncover" the actual details, such as exactly how many of the female, or male, pilots have seen the various questionable material. The latest news story from the CBC mentions one specific female pilot, yet upthread, a post notes that another female pilot was contacted by the CBC and essentially said nothing.

The problem is compounded by the divide among the pilots themselves - those who spoke out and those who had no comment.

Your argument would hold more weight if this was an area where AC had (or close to) gender parity. Its been documented that minorities (especially when it comes to gender) are more prone to discrimination in the workplace. This is why a diversity in the workforce is a strong asset. No one group dominates.

'professional work group' is very cliche these days. Alpha male syndrome is very common in male dominated roles. I know 2 commercial pilots (who work for other airlines) who play in my sports league that are borderline misogynistic.

You clearly have not been in a hockey room lately.
