Sounds like AC's overall fleet will have reduced number of J seats in the near future.
Another win for the company and another loss for elites.

You expect AC to keep 6 extra J seats that they can't monetize just so we can get them for free?

They have less demand for J seats in domestic/transborder service because today, most companies simply will not pay for J on flights of less than 8 hours. Government will, of course, but how many bums in seats does that reflect on a given flight? Not enough to keep 20 seats up front.

IMHO, few consumers will pay more than double for seating in J on what are most often two or three hour flights. It's just not worth it.

It doesnt seem they're in a huge rush. Its next summer before all of the 20 321s are switched in configuration.

I think government only pays for flights that are 8-9 hours+

IIRC it was 5 across in J, 2x3 when the A320 was first introduced, or was it the 727?

They only have 10 A321s.

I wonder which type is next? The 788s came with a small J cabin, the 777HD has a smaller J cabin, and now this. Does anyone think its possible that the A319s could see a reduction to maybe 10J?

Perhaps the 77L when they go through the re-config scheduled for both 777 variants. The ratio of J:Y is quite high there too, similar to the A330 at 18.4% (42:228).

So all the passengers in the front rows of Y who use the J lavatories won't have as far to walk. Who says AC doesn't care?

727 was 2x3 arrangement in J. The original factory delivered A320 was 30J/102Y if memory serves. But I have a feeling upgradesecret will correct me if I am wrong.

Since the 727 I don't believe that AC has j cabin with middle seat. But I would have to defer to a more senior board member to recall if the L1011 had middle seat in j. Also have no recollection of the former CP cabin configuration.

Current complement of 10 321s plus at least an additional 5 airframes to come in 2015 as the Embraers leave the fleet per T&c with Boeing 737max purchase.

Then the original A320's could very well be 6 rows of 2x3. I seem to recall being assigned a middle seat flying MIA-YYZ.

No, there was no middle seat in AC L1011 J.

CP's DC10 has the worst Y configuration of 2x5x2. Can you imagine sitting in the middle seat in the middle 5 seater? The DC10 J was 2x2x2. Op up to F once but couldn't remember the seating arrangements. The CP 744 lower deck J has middle seat in a 2x3x2 configuration.

Likely because the L1011 stopped flying before 'Executive Class' was introduced. Now the exception was the 3 (or 4) L10's brought back from the desert and put into the special business class configuration and only ran between YYZ and YVR/LAX.

The first Executive Class aircraft was the 767-200 and it was 2x3x2

Back to the topic, if you look at other NA carriers that use this aircraft, AC is still a "bit" less dense than the others, even in this newer configuration.
