For those of you who don't know, I commute between YHZ & YYZ on a bi-weekly basis for school. Normally I fly Canjet on this route for a variety of reasons (think service... ). For particular evening I was unable to book Canjet as I have a late commitment in YHZ, so my only choice was AC or Tango. As Tango was only $129 and AC was over $500, I booked Tango.
Now I have in my possession a $100 credit from AC for a changed itin earlier this year. I asked the folks at Tango if I could use this credit on my Tango flight and was told NO - it is issued by AC and we are 2 separate airlines, I can only use it on AC. Fine.
Today I get a call from Tango. My flight has been cancelled but hey no problem, we have you protected on the AC flight that leaves a bit before your flight, or if this is not convenient, I could stay over (my expense) and come back the next morning on Tango. Of course I took the AC mainline flight.
So my question is this. If Tango is a separate airline and I cannot use an AC credit to purchase a ticket, why can they move me to AC without hesitation when the Tango flight was cancelled?
I am so confused.

This will continue to be confusing. You were protected on AC mainline in the same way in the old days if an AC flight was cancelled, they might have put you on a CP flight, even at the height of competition. As for the MCO, the ones I have all state spcifically "Air Canada schedule/Connectors/Charter/Vacations/Cargo (?) flights only" which would not include Tango as it is not part of a very specific list. Why some stations do, and some don't, is one of those inconsistencies of AC.

Ah yes, consistently inconsistent should be part of the AC's World slogan they like to banter about in promo materials.
I was tuning into channel 9 on my DEN-YVR UA flight this past Monday and the tango flight ahead of us was referred to by both ATC and the pilot as AC 60XX. Hmmm...seems the same to me, doesn't it?
My understanding is they are operating under the same licence, and with the same carrier code, so officially, legally, and morally, they are the same carrier.
