How's your success rate (from Y-->C and C-->F)?
I only do C-F. 100% success rate. A SD @ United several years ago gave me advise on what to do to score an Upgrade on LH. Has worked 100% for me.
Same may not hold for Y-C as more FF upgrade from Y-C. Y in LH is brutal from what I have been told. Think AC new Sardine Can.

Good to know that the process does work, though I'd likely only be able to upgrade Y-->C.
LH in Y is especially brutal on the A380, no room at all and I'm only 5'11" tall.

I have done JNB-Nelspruit - JNB flight only once for Kruger.

My trips to SA are for business.
If you book early enough there are great discount business between JNB-CPT & JNB-DUR.

Yes. the process works very well.

Routings can be booked on LH.com as well, look for business flex plus I fares (P fares), can route on A380 both inbound and outbound (although no inbound for May).

Kruger huts can get booked up well in advance but since people have to pay 1 month before reservation there ends up being lots of availability 30 days prior (as people firm up their plans and cancel extra days etc.). We booked JNB last year about 2 months prior to travel and were able to get choice huts in Kruger a month before leaving and loved self-touring in our rental car around the park (and saw the Big 5 all from our rental car and damm inexpensive!).

From LHR your only option is SAA codeshare.
Hipmunk is giving me LHR-ZRH-JNB on LX and also LHR-IST-JNB, no idea if it is bookable though.

It is. There are also CAI and CDG stops from LHR on select dates. I'd ignore the CAI as you'll be flying down on EgyptAir.

Doing LHR-CDG-ZRH-JNB Additional Taxes.

Do LHR-ZRH-JNB. LX ZRH-JNB decent J cabin. I did it this year ZRH-DAR.
On LX books into D. 150%

ON Turkish, check the class of service bonus. I do not fly TK so have not looked into it.

BTW, P on LH only 100% from JAN 2014 I just discovered.

I will stay with SAA or switch to LX

LX D fare gives 150% EQM for UA MP, whereas SAA D fare only gives 100%.

If I am strictly going for the extra 50% EQM, I'd do LX, if I am curious to try the SAA product I might forfeit the extra EQM.

No but you can fly out from YLW for $2900+, but probably cheaper to route out of YYC/YEG (with o/w reward ticket) and have your inbound go through YVR or YYJ and skip the last leg.

SAA D gives 125% I confirmed it with AE & it is on their Website.

Also confirmed by AE to this poster.

For LX & LH which are not codeshare, make sure AC gets the LX/LH PNR, that is indication The D is available. As well get seat assignment. AC could not get me a seat. LX would not give to AC. I had to call & get it.
AC said if LX/LH does not generate a PNR immediately, than they can come back within 48 hours & say unable.
Once AC got LX PNR , I went ahead & issued the tickets. And with the ticket numbers I called LX to get my seats.

I just saw you are crediting it to UA MP. I am crediting mine to AC.
