Flightaware shows it in YYR right now. I'd guess passenger medical issue or mechanical, but if the latter I would have thought they'd head to YHZ instead.
Yep it was goose bay, didn't get to see much of the place!
As mentioned it was a medical emergency, doctor was onboard and was able to treat, the patient then got violent and needed to be restrained. By the time we landed at goose bay everything was ok but decision to divert had most prob been taken some time before.
We was on the ground in goose bay fr about 2-2:30 hrs. Landed at 15:10 (scheduled for 12:00)

YYR is airport of choice for Trans Atlantic flight, back in the day it was a stop over for refuelling of transatlantic flights. It is primarily emergency landing point for North America bound flights. remember 911?
flight path & math , The rest are too far west or south
YYR is still regularly used for refuelling purposes. A year ago my UA flight on a 757 from BCN to EWR was (pre-planned)
diverted there due to strong head winds. Apparently it was a fairly regular occurrence that winter.
