Exec First Noise Cancelling Headphone Quality?

I have an upcoming trip in AC Exec First from YYZ-LHR. I have never flown AC before.

Are the noise cancelling headphones that the airline offers good enough for me to spare the hassle of bringing my own for the flight?

Bring your own. Who knows how many other ears have worn those headphones...

My girlfriend prefers them over carrying. I carry my own.

I don't usually have enough room, so I bring a pair of decent airbuds.
The built in ones are horrible and if you press then to your ear, they emit a high pitch whine which is really annoying.

This is kind of what I figured. I'm glad I asked. Thank you.

Looks like I am packing them.

Now I guess I can ask LH fliers if I should bring them in my carry-on or checked baggage for the return flight.

To me, they look like crap. If you can afford to fly J, you can afford to buy Bose. They are the best. I never travel without em.

I always take my own Bose 15, but usually I get soft crackling when plugged into the AC socket (J or Y). There is a thread explanation somewhere here, to do with the structure of the plug Vs receptor connection points.

Ditto LH when I last flew them.

capebretonboy - don't you get this?

If its a noisy item or movie on the IFE, it might be tolerable, but last flight I switched back to the AC head sets.

Bose is way too overpriced. You can buy much better quality headphones for the same price. A good audiophile forum is http://www.head-fi.org

Researched this extensively when my Bose failed.

Hands down winner were the Sony Digital over ear noise cancelling ones. No comparison to Panasonic, Bose, Beats....etc.

Maybe the best ones you own. Far from the best. I've had 3 pairs of Bose. One pair panasonic. One pair Nokia wireless. Sony Digital is the new kid on the block and they slam the others, especially Bose.

The ones on board are not noise-cancelling, they are just regular head sets.
I bring my own Sony with me, a world of difference.

They do include the thin, disposable foam ear-condoms which cuts the icky-factor in half.

But, as noted by many others, they sound so bad you want to bring your own anyways.

the AC J headsets are noise cancelling, but an older, dated technology. The high-pitched squealing when you put the two ear pieces together is an indication of feedback in the cancellation circuitry. Newer headsets can do a lot better than that.
