Did anyone else catch this 35K "enhancement"
I missed this one, chart shows for 35K you still get 3 checked bags on AC , 1 bag on *A ( silver level) but....... No priority bag tag or handling

Priority Baggage Handling
Elite 50K, Elite 75K and Super Elite 100K members may find their bags among the first on the baggage carousel upon the arrival of flights operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Express and any Star Alliance member airline.
Seems like an odd thing to claw back, since you still get the baggage allowance.
I guess a good thing if it reduces number of priority bags and should improve delivery at belt. Other than general real slow in YYZ & YYC my bags have been out in 1st batch in 2012
This was made clear when they announced the introduction of the new tiers in December 2011. Priority bag handling is a *Gold benefit, and thus was removed with E35k since it only comes with *Silver.
The baggage allowance is only for AC metal. With other carriers you only get *Silver baggage allowance. This means nothing extra for most carriers, but usually 1 free bag with U.S. carriers.

e.g. UA gives 1x50lbs for *S, but 3x70lbs for *G.
What is odd is for 35k AC you still get 3 X 32kg bags on AC only not 1 bag *A silver , or 2 bag *A Gold
But no priority handling, seems odd to claw back 1/2 a benefit, especially when $ wise extra weight could be sold for cargo
The other thing is how many 35K are going to miss this and get nailed extra charges. On split flights, code share and/or return flights from USA. Going to be ugly at some checking counters for first while. Already an issue at UA checking in YEG for those that booked with AC and are thinking they have 1 bag like AC.

Oh I agree 35K E is a transition year thing, unless ........ A majority of "Altitude" qualify @35K.
Then I expect 25K to disappear ( not like there is much left there any way ) and 35k becomes new base level, giving you *A Silver, and few extras on AC only flights , 2 vs 1 bag, priority boarding and check in.
If most only hit 25K then it will be a clean match of UA 25K level and 35k will be gone.
Comes down to what AC mix will be after 2012 done.

This would be insane - not saying it wont happen, because it probably will - but will be insane, considering one just needs 2000 miles to be Star Silver on A3.
Also, needing 35k on AC is really like needing to fly 70,000 miles since most reasonably priced tickets earn 50%!

I doubt this will ever happen, as the lowest tiers for all the competition are 25k.

AC would responsibly have to give a full year notice to eliminate a tier. So 35k is safe for the 2013 and 2014 benefit years. They could in December 2013 announce the 35k tier is going away, so anyone qualifying in 2014 would no longer have 35k during the 2015 benefit year.

So it is here to stay at least 2 years.
Have they announced the qualification levels for 2014?
I only see the criteria for 2013 on aircanada.com.
So maybe until Jan. 1, they still could announce new levels for 2014 that no longer include the 35k level that stands out as a "legacy" outlier, inherited from the past.

Like last year expect very late announcement on 2014, in fact probably why late start on 2013. They want final numbers in and announce 2014 "enhancements " by March 1 2013, effective March 1, 2014

I will add it's 5 days until 2013 and we don't know final aspects of the 2013 program and no idea of 2014. Yet we start another new flying year with no idea what our status miles will be worth

Not to be a pessimist, but I find that the priority bags only work half of the time anyway, and almost never when you connect. It's not a major miss for me anyway.

LOL. There are a few words there that just don't seem to fit together:
"AC" and "responsibly" and "full year notice" if the past is any indicator of the future.

To be fair, last year they did give a one year advance notice on the qualification changes.
