Huge Increase in Flight Pass Price

I know that prices are going up on airfare, but, the price increase in Flight Pass seems disproportionally high. I bought a 30 Credit Latitude Transcontinental Pass in February 2012 for $25,401.60. Today the same one lists on the Air Canada website for $30,273.00. This is a staggering price increase of approximately 20% in 10 months. I went to buy another pass today and was stunned to see the new pricing. I declined the purchase.

Does anyone know why this increase is so high? Are aviation costs rising at a much higher rate than overall inflation or is this just a pure marketing pricing exercise or ????

Price Paid in February 2012:
Transcontinental Pass Latitude 30 credits - 30 credits $22,680.00
Taxes Canada Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST #100092287 RT0001)
Total taxes $2,721.60
Grand Total - Canadian Dollars $25,401.60.

Price Quoted Today:
Transcontinental Pass Latitude 30 credits - 30 credits 27,030.00
Taxes Canada Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST #100092287 RT0001) 3,244.00
Total Taxes 3,244.00
Grand Total - Canadian Dollars $30,274.00

I'm surprised. I've been looking at the BC Commuter/Regional pass and 9 times out of 10 it has been cheaper to book my flight last minute (a day or two out) than going through the pass. I always thought that if they wanted my money up front they should be giving me a discount.

Flight passes, sadly have been going up for years

I remember spending 6k on a East/West flight pass (Latitude) which included the Islands. Now it is 9K and does not

I've bought the Florida Plus pass a few times for LAS, the price has stayed OK. But have noticed that others have really jumped.

I've noted the Maritimes one has gone down quite a bit actually.

When AC increased the London pass by 28% overnight a couple of years ago that was when I moved on from the pass's.

28% was just stupid. I understand increases but an increase such as this was to just stupid.

Since I use these products for travel price certainty on contracts, it isn't the discount I looked for as much as the flexibility for a reasonable price. 20% increase and close to web pricing means I will need to start to shop for a new SME-friendly tool. sigh.

Western Commuter Pass puchased in May 2012 (10 credits): $2,440+$122 GST=$2,562.

Currently $2,646 as displayed price now includes GST (so $2,520+$126 GST).

3.2% increase.

Province of residence is Alberta.

Shocking

Id expect 4/5 % to be a fair increase annually.

To be fair, some passes have dropped a tiny bit in price as well:
When did Flight Pass price drop?

I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop:
Flight Pass select privileges for 2013

The one I looked at does. The details page should tell you what fare class it uses.

North America + Sun ('Tango Plus') = M fare
Europe ('Economy') = V fare (which is T+)
Asia ('Economy') = N fare (which is T)
