Oops! I forgot my suitcase.

Let's say you were on a flight that got into X at 9:20 a.m., and you had to be in Court by 10:00a.m.

Problem is, you absolutely need to check a bag in because it's the start of a long trip... would it be ok to just leave the suitcase on the baggage belt and pick it up around 1 or 2pm, presumably from the airline.

Does it matter if it's a smaller airport like YQR with no concierge, nothing?

Iīd assume the suitcase would be taken to the lost baggage office after 20-30min at most airports. At least thatīs what happened to mine when it took me a little longer to get to the carousel at YEG a few months ago. Of course at some airports it may be taken away and blown up for security reasons.

For a domestic itinerary, no problem.

Usually when I do this ( late arrival, rush to meeting - no time to wait), the bag
is taken to the luggage counter, and may be claimed there later.

Sorry, could you clarify the logic on this one?

If you are planning on departing X after your meeting, how will you have access to the baggage claims area if you've already left it several hours ago? Or does an airport staff member pick it up for you?

At some airports, the baggage claim area is public access. Therefore, any old Joe off the street can come in and claim your bags.

Most airports in Canada are set-up that way, at least for domestic arrivals, zero security easy street access

Domestic baggage claim at YYC is this exactly.

This is the way it is at YQR as well. Very often, an AC baggage agent is waiting at the belt so I expect that person would take the left over bag and store it behind their counter (they are opposite the baggage belts). That wouldn't of course stop anyone from nicking a bag if that's what they wanted to do.

Given how quick bags arrive at YQR I'd suggest giving it a few minutes after arrival if the flight is on time or early. The only challenge there is that if the OP has to wait the taxi stand may empty out, which would cause a delay. With that tight a schedule I'd be tempted to prebook a limo service for the quick ride to the courthouse to ensure that I had a ride as soon as I needed it.

Are you comfortable leaving your bag with the "riff raff" though?

Exactly. OP is AC SE and everyone knows that a priority tag means that the bag has something good in it.
