Flew my 1st MR!
Went YOW-YYZ-LAS-YYZ-YOW on Saturday. It made for a very long day and while I'm not sure I ever want to do another MR there were a few highlights.
The Dragon in the YYZ transborder MLL told me I was only the 2nd person she'd met in 30 years that admitted to doing an MR.
Booked T+, scored some eupgrades points from a colleague and upgraded the 1st 3 legs.
I usually give candy to the crew on TATL or TPAC flights & decided that as I was going to be on the same aircraft for 10 hrs that counted as long haul.
The SD, the other FAs & the cockpit crew were all very appreciative and I got even better service than usual in J. They were all amazed that I was flying the same aircraft to/from LAS and expressed gratitude for my loyalty to AC.
The return leg to YYZ was flown by none other than Capt Doug Morris and after mentioning to the SD that I had never flown on a flight piloted by a celebrity before and have been reading his column for years, I was offered an autographed copy of his book and got to meet him briefly.

Booked T+, scored some eupgrades points from a colleague and upgraded the 1st 3 legs. I have used the same trick on my YYC-YVR-LAX-YYZ-YOW

Jelouse! An invite into the cockpit would have been epic!

Since the itinerary yields 4900 miles - for this to be a good MR - it would have to cost under $150, a decent MR $150-$250, anything over $250 all in would definitely not be a MR!

I'm expecting that it earned me 4,878 status miles and cost me anywhere from $115 to $387 depending on what you want to include. Officially it would be $348 or about 0.07/mile which isn't true MR territory but it was the cheapest flight that got me the miles I needed in a single day from Ottawa.
Breakdown of my costs for the day are as follows; $348 in airfare ($233 of of a $250 AC credit +$115 in taxes), $20 for candy to the crew & $19 parking at YOW. My actual out of pocket expenses were $154.
Since it is from YOW I am guessing that it was about $340. In the future you should look into routing LAS runs through YVR and YYC (though with the T fare invasion this probably is no longer an option). You need to have a look at the schedule but right now, I believe that the YVR plane heads back to YYC.
One slightly annoying thing about heading to the US via YVR is that there are no Nexus or GE machines in the US connection area (have to fill out a customs form, how primitive). There shouldn't be a line though and the agent knew what I was doing.
Agent: How long are you going to Vegas.
Me: 1 night.
Agent: So this is for the miles?
Me: Yup.
Agent: Have a nice day.
If I had already filled out the customs form it would have been quicker than GE (those things don't like my fingerprints for some reason...).

Perhaps for you.
I've happily paid ~$900 for ~15,000 miles. But it was in paid F, which means I spent 1/3 less time in the air, and in comfort.
Flying in Y for miles isn't a mileage run so much as self abuse.

I've done YYJ-SFO-YYJ on UA in a day, and in both SFO and YYJ, none of the people in authority cared at all. The customs dude at SFO told me that he had done a mileage run a couple of years earlier to retain his status with another airline. Coming back, they wondered why I only had a laptop bag, and I said mileage run, and they said welcome home.

I'll vouch for that. I did YYZ-HKG-YYZ a couple of years ago. Without IFE and a broken reading light on one leg. That was NOT fun. About 12 hours into the first flight I thought 'this seemed like a good idea when I booked this'.
But the look on peoples faces at work was almost worth it.
Them: What did you do on the weekend?
Me: I went to Hong Kong.
Them: HONG KONG?
Me: Yup
Them: How long were you there?
Me: Oh, about an hour.
Them: Walking away shaking their head or rolling their eyes
