It was snow/wind, but it seems that all the other flights into CPH made it. Our pilot made an approach and almost landed, but then pulled up at the last minute, said it didn't feel safe to land, and that we would be headed to Amsterdam.
They put us up in a nice hotel somewhat close to the airport and told us we'd be taking off at 9am tomorrow morning. I know I shouldn't complain about safety, better safe than sorry, but it is still a bit frustrating, especially because it cut down my already short stay in CPH by a full day.

But why AMS, AC has no presence there, nor do any partners, why not FRA or BRU for example?
Interesting to see how the plane went from 1000 to 36000 feet in 18 minutes, and then cruised for 20 mintues, before descending again for AMS.

Crosswinds? Wind shear? Was in CPH last week and during our stay the winds/weather were brutal. Upon leaving CPH, all inbound ARN connections were cancelled due to airport closure there.

Almost landed then pulled up, while almost all other flights landed ok? Man, must've been really bad landing conditions, or maybe human factor?
I was at CPH today, seeing off some friends who were supposed to be on the AC 883 flight. Most flights were delayed or cancelled coming in.
They told me that their outbound flight was originally scheduled to leave at 15:45 (3.5 hour delay), but then it kept getting pushed back until it was rescheduled for 11:30 the next morning. They got put up at the Radisson Blu with all meals and lodging provided, along with a free taxi to/from the airport Real classy of AC. However, at the airport it was still chaotic...
From what they were told, the inbound flight couldn't find a slot to land after the initial attempt and the pilot decided they didn't want to have less fuel than the minimum amount required to divert to another airport, so they played it safe and diverted to AMS instead of waiting around.
With regards to the weather -- I was heading home after they got into the security line, and I couldn't see stuff 10 m in front of me. I had to wait at my bus shelter instead of inside the station because I couldn't see the bus coming, and it was maybe a 15 m walk, so it was quite bad. It wasn't snowing too heavily (nothing like the blizzards in Waterloo) but the wind kept the snow in the air and blew snow from the roofs.

I don't know about BRU but FRA had quite a bit of snow today, the airport was closed for one hour this afternoon any many intra-European flights were cancelled. I did not check if AC's flights made it in and out allright.
Snowstorm over Denmark Sunday
The snowstorm over Denmark has hit Copenhagen Airport Sunday morning, and is expected to last at least until Sunday evening.
Delays and cancellations will occur.

I'm pretty sure the pilots who actually have all the pertinent information have a good reason as to why they picked CPH.
It could be as simple as fuel requirements as both FRA and BRU are further away than CPH or weather at/on route to alternate airports or combination of multiple factors.

It's always preferable to divert to an airport that we serve for obvious reasons. Apparently FRA was in the same pickle as CPH regarding weather constraints today.

I would have guessed that DUS would have been a good alternate airport due to the big LH presence. AMS is a great airport but doesn't have much *A.

Good job to AC for handling the situation on the ground well, but please note that AC was not being "classy". They were simply doing what EU regulations require them to do in the event of a flight delay, which is to "care" for their passengers by providing food and lodging. It doesn't matter that the cause of the delay (weather) was clearly outside of their control and there was literally nothing that AC could have done to prevent the delay.
