Million Mile - Worthy Goal?
Need some advice. I'm 125K miles away from million mile mark. Like many on here, I've become increasingly disenfranchised with Air Canada and Aeroplan. With the new Altitude levels (and from what I've read on the forums), it seems like those who hit million mile achieve Altitude 50 status for life, which means Star Alliance Gold status. If I work on (self-funding) the 125K I need to hit that mark, I'm worried that they will change the rules before I hit it in the next 2 years and they may only give me Altitude 35 (or some such diluted benefit). What do you think the chances are of this happening? Do you think it's worth pursuing? Tango Plus fares at reasonable prices are so much harder to find now (near impossible on overseas flights). And the Tango Plus fares I have booked for next year I now realize are non-upgradeable for me as SE (which is another change I've slept through). I'm really starting to question the benefits of being 'loyal'. Don't even get me started on what it takes to redeem (and the 'scamcharges' I realize I've been stupidly paying by booking on their website). Thanks in advance for your tips!
I think people just assume that since 35K used to be Elite/*G yet, ACTT has never made any inference to that, ever.
Having lounge access, eUpgrades, priority boarding, free luggage for life is a decent trade off, even if you don't use them that often at least you know they are there.

+1.
125k isnt a whole lot, and I doubt AC would drop the perk to Alt-35K which would be silver on SA, BLAh. Not much a recognition then.

doubtful, but still possible - will likely take the calculated risk and make the run for it - the thing that smarts is i'm not travelling much for business anymore, so these are primarily self-funded trips - and something really sticks in my craw about throwing money at a company that no longer imo shows much appreciation for their loyal customers - the cold reality is they know they have me and i won't be switching anytime soon

If you´re only short 125k status miles and would be taking most of the trips anyway, I´d say go for it.
When AC introduced the MM program I thought it was an excellent marketing strategy to create long-term loyal customers and generate additional revenue.
Even though I´m not even half-way there, I seriously considered sticking with AC for the foreseeable future and would have probably made MM status within the next 5 years.
However, at the rate the program has been enhanced over the last 1-2 years (often with no/minimal advance notice), the goal of earning MM status doesn´t rank very high on my agenda anymore. If I get MM status one day, great, but sadly enough I don´t expect to receive any meaningful benefits over any decent credit card once I´ve made it.

I have also heard rumors that Air Canada is going to add additional benefits to the Million Mile program for next year - so I would definitely go for it if you are that close.

What does this mean? Tango Plus fares are all upgradeable as far as I know. Or did I sleep through something?
I will be 40K miles short of MM at the end of the year, so I am going for it, but I am painfully aware that AC reserves the right to change the program at any time ...

The biggest problem with AC is they don't have a loyalty program.

TP fares in K/L/T are not eligible for upgrades (even if you're SE). I just checked on the eUpgrade site. I slept through it and have now booked 4 status mile runs that I can't upgrade myself on. I'm glad you're awake now. Not a good feeling (like being deceived) when expectations aren't well managed - and at the end of the day, it's my fault for not paying attention to the fine print.

That's because K/L/T are no longer T+ fares, only T, that means 50% status miles if you credit to AP.
No, those are Tango Plus fares, just non-upgradeable. I expect to earn full status miles on those flights. All my Air Canada documentation (itineraries, websites, etc.) refer to those as T+. I'm reading the thread you provided a link to, but don't know why everything else I have makes no reference to that and continues to refer to those fares as T+.

Just a flaw in the IT system. They were pushed down to T.
Bookings made prior to Oct 16th were manually pushed up to T+ to be eligible for status miles and e-upgrades.

WHAT!? This is infuriating. Surely I have some solid ground to argue. My itinerary/receipts clearly say 'Tango Plus'. All links/pages say that Tango Plus fares are eligible for 100% status miles. This is so misleading. What should I do now?

Calm down. Your ticket is still a T+ ticket, but the fare bucket in which you were originally booked now is not. Your ticket should have been preemptively moved to an S fare or higher (the new lowest T+ bucket). If it is still booked in T/L/K (you can check by going to ac.com and clicking on "Manage my Booking"), call AC res and alert them to the issue, and they will forward it up the chain.
