As I was waiting to come in there was a guy in front of me at the counter trying to enter with his United boarding pass. He just hit AC Elite, but I guess his miles hadn't posted, or there's no early recognition this late in the year so the dragon is just completing the the process of turning him away.
I'm alone, so I say cheerily "No problem, I'll just guest him in." The dragon proceeds to glare at me with eyes that could cut steel and says icily "I think WE'LL take care of it at this end, sir." At that point the guy shrugs, mutters "air canada" under his breath and walks off.
She had turned him away, and at this point there was no way she was letting him in.
YVR domestic MLL does have some very unpleasant staff at the front, can't comment on transborder MLL but probably same.
For me the int'l one is worst, followed by transborder followed by domestic (where they are usually just chatting with each other ignoring passengers).

Sigh. The lounge is less than a 1/4 full...
WOW. That is ridiculous.
I would write and complain so the remedy process can begi...errr...
I'm usually an AC champion, but, the last few months I just dunno what's going on .. Everyone is grumpy over there and seemingly trying to go above and beyond in making everyone's experience terrible for no apparent reason.
I was flying YYC-YEG this week on a 5PM flight, walked into the lounge at 2:30 and asked if I could go on the 3:30 instead (no bags).
I get a blank stare, followed by, "you're on the 5pm, sorry".
uhg.
On my departing YEG-YYC flight, I went into the lounge and in a very good mood said to the agent "Good evening! How are you tonight?"
The response? .......... NOTHING. Not a smirk, not a smile, not a "ok thanks", just nothing.
Figuring they must not have heard me (not sure how that was even possible) I follow up with:
"must be a busy night tonight, lots of snow down in Calgary"
What do I get in response?
NOTHING... Not a smirk, not a smile, not a "yep, sure is".. This person just refused to even talk to me.
The best part is, we are entering PREMIUM lounges where "Top Tier" passengers interact with staff. Pathetic.

They get that way from having to deal with ........s all day.
If they hate their job so much, there is a door they are welcome to walkthrough and a willing happy body who would love to have a job.
The reality is, working with the public is hard and not for everyone.. If they aren't that person, they need to quit acting like babies and find a job in a closet somewhere so they can hate the world in silence.

I read these stories with utter amazement that any company anywhere would put up with these types of employees dealing with your top 1%. When you think of the business AC could have today looking back over the past 10 years...Porter, WS, US carriers all picking up the pieces of business mostly based on p'ed off once loyal AC customers.

Was it an older gentleman?
I usually get a depressed "hello.." after I say "hi, how are you today or how is it going or good morning/evening"..
Still better than YYZ Domestic:
Dragon: NEXT! (like it's CBP or somethinig)
me: Hello, how are you?
Dragon....tap tap tap..BEEP.
Dragon: NEXT!

The Transborder MLL has been staffed by my former illegal basement suite landlord when I was studying at UBC...oh the pleasure I felt when I ran into her the first time as an Elite member. If the others are as cranky as her, then they really need to clean house.
The International MLL morning staff are OK but clearly could care less about lifting a finger to assist pax, preferring to text msg, read the paper, sip their comp lattes.
I think that the OPs experiencing with a MLL dragon is part of the lounge initiation experience with Air Canada, no?
