Unhappy Business class flights from Montreal to Berlin are now going for 90 000 points??

I got this exact flight for 70 000 points last year. Aeroplan couldn't possibly have increased the cost by 20 000 points in less than a year... could they have?

So, what are the odds of Aeroplan having a "seat sale" for this kind of flight in the coming weeks?

Surprise, surprise...you're Aeroplan has been "enhanced"! Things change quickly. Keep up please! C1-C2 in Y is 60K, J is 90K, F is 125K ow.

Oh, on AC there is always a "sale"...

I believe this change took place in July 2011 and was well documented here. I think we received 6-8 weeks notice on the increase. There was an unadvertised sale last Dec (first class available for biz class price, biz class available for economy price). There may or may not be another sale.

Welcome to FT!

Still, up to the last enhancement, it was either 80k (star) or 85k (AC), not 70k.

Was not 70k for as long as I recall, used to be 80 forever.

Far nastier shock, if you fly YUL-MUC on this route is that your $100 in taxes has now become $500.

Last year you would have got this ticket at 80k pre July, or 60k in the brief "promo" where J redemptions were priced as Y redemptions, but never 70k.

No longer called "fuel" on Aeroscam tickets but carrier service administration charge or something like that. A co-pay really.

On revenue tickets, still "fuel surcharge.".

Departure from LHR adds APD of $212. Ouch.

Always thought about this one; Could one fly YUL-ZRH(J)-LHR(Y) purpousfuly to avoid the 212$ J fee? 1h30 min flight in euro Y versus euro J to save ~150$ sounds like a good deal to me!

The UK APD is, basically, charged on departure considering distance and class of service. It's easy to find more details on the web.

But for our purposes, YUL-ZRH-LHR-YUL will still attract the APD of $106/212 (Y/J), but YUL-LHR-ZRH-YUL will attract little. Of course, there is a basket full of other charges, taxes and whatnot in either case.

Lesson: to avoid high APD don't fly long-haul in F out of LHR!
