Two things on today's flight from CDG-YUL left me ticked:
1. During snack service prior to arrival, I asked (in English) the FA for a beer. She replied (negatively) in French. I shrugged it off and did not follow up as I was in a window seat and the layout on the 777 is not conducive to carrying on a conversation. Perhaps not a huge deal, but this came after...
2. Prior to takeoff and during the flight, one of the FAs (who wasn't working our section - I was seated in 31A) talked a lot with the two men (father and son?) next to me. I presume they knew each other (they spoke French, so I'm not sure). He brought them blankets from J (later I understood why when I saw how cold it got in 31A next to the emergency exit), amenity kits, champagne, cognac, and other goodies.
Maybe I was just tired, but I found it to be by far the most unpleasant flight this year (after about 70K miles on AC) - I'm almost tired enough to believe there was some hostility because I do not speak French. Flying between Germany and Italy on Lufthansa earlier this year I felt far more welcomed than on this flight.
I have to say this was an exception (most AC flights have been great), and perhaps that's what made it stand out all the more. I wasn't going to post about it, but the longer I sat here at YUL waiting for my next flight, the more I felt a need to vent.

Don't compare Lufthansa...or Swiss for that matter, to AC.
I flew Swiss Economy in June and enjoyed the service better then AC Executive Service that I had coming and going out of Europe on the same trip.
Can anyone figure out what the hell the OP is complaining about?
Not really, but I'll toss in my opinion since I am on that flight quite a bit.
Generally, the CDG-YUL (and reverse) flights are where I experience my best service on AC. I find the crew generally to be more friendly and attentive than when I fly from LHR.
Then again, OP seems to feel somehow that he was treated poorly as he does not speak French. I cannot comment on that as I tend to speak exclusively French on those flights.

He seems to be able to tell the difference between "non" and "no."
And that flight by the way certainly has many Anglophones as passengers; last time in the gate area at CDG I think that I was just about the only person not speaking English, it seemed.

Me neither..guess he got Y service and expected J service??? Maybe he should have paid J....
People complain all the time is what I've noticed on this board.

Just out of curiosity, is English the only language you speak?

How many languages does a person need to speak to have a decent flight? I don't think he was flying to UN for a translation job interview. Or maybe he was hitting on the staff, and got rebuffed.

I'm simply curious. I'm all too aware of the attitude of Canadian language wars and your various internecine whine fests. I do know from experience that one's treatment can vary depending on the language one speaks; it's most certainly not unique to AC. LH FAs can morph from hunchbacked trolls into actual human beings at a genuine attempt at German.
