Bit confused how empty J class has R0

I was looking to book at Lat ticket today for NRT-YVR in January and I saw on EFlyer R0 and on KVS R0. I checked AC site and on 763 only 4 seats were occupied. What? R0 and out of the 23 J seats with 4 occupied, one month out there are NO R seats available? Is this normal for AC or the new and improved AC of things to come?

The seat map is not a good guide to how many seats have been purchased. But yes, this is not unusual. Presumably AC think they can/want to sell those seats in J.

Would this calculation by AC usually include LMUs?

This has been discussed before - it's now obviously common practice for AC not to release many seats as "R" availability on many of their major routes. I guess they want to hold on to J seats to the last minute in case they can sell them.

Look at many trans pacific or trans atlantic flights many months out and a lot of them have no "R" space available yet they look empty on the seatmap.

That's why it's called "The R Games"

With AC being the cruel dealer..............

I no longer purchase Latitude fares because of this practice by AC.

What's your alternative in this sort of situation? Buy T+ and be prepared to sit in the back?

This issue has been discussed ad nauseum in the The R Games thread - which you happened to post in this past summer.

You must be new here.

The biggest problem with AC is they don't have a loyalty program.

No brainer, why buy Latitude if you can't upgrade immediately, after all that's why you would pay the big bucks...no? If there's no "R" space buy T+ and take a chance like everyone else, including those on Latitude fares.

I have never seen so many open seats and R0. Simple as that.
Makes my decision easier. Flying UA from NRT-SEA-YVR in confirmed biz class and the price was slightly higher than T+.

Maybe it should be discussed repeatedly so that AC realizes in situations like this that the customer will not purchase a ticket when these e-ups seem quite useless. The program gets sloppier every year.

No, no...its all good. AC loves you and is all about "enhancing" your on-board experience!

they are only looking out for the most important part of the equation in their minds...and you just figured that out! Don't you feel better?

And, as has often been commented: If you don't like it you can always leave for the despicable US carriers that don't have IFE, since there are plenty of others eager and willing to clamor for your spot

On the flip side, if you have a J ticket it makes flight changes and IRROPS better unlike some other Airlines where no J seats are left on day of flight if you have a IRROP due to all the unlimited complimentary upgrades.. makes you less likely to purchase a J ticket on that airline, so that could also be a motivation.

I don't think anyone would criticize AC for keeping half a dozen or even more J seats available till the last minute, that makes business sense. But the way they keep an essentially empty cabin empty till the last minute makes no sense to me........

Nope, buy a cheap J seat and know I'm up front, with no games and no hassles. Since cost is often equivalent to (or occasionally cheaper than) a Latitude fare, it makes far more sense when you know your travel dates won't change.
