Yes, indeed. But it's always good practice to pack a paper book just in case the battery goes down on the e-reader. It happens.

I love that in 30 years someone is going to read this thread and have no idea what a "paper book" is ...

That said, it would be nice of AC to either enforce or not enforce a rule around tablets, ipads, etc. as I feel like I am trying to smuggle something every time the FA walks past me... am I allowed, am I not allowed... who knows... seems different each flight.

Highly unlikely that will happen.

The rule is clear, you are not allowed, put it away.

I think its a good thing to challenge the rules every now and then, and also to ask yourself if "the rules" are founded on sound reasoning....

Do you need a special adaptor to plug in the Kindle on board?

I've not tried it, but the Kindle has a USB cable (it unplugs from the AC adapter) and theoretically, if you plug it into the USB port on the seat back in front of you it should charge the device. If not, you can plug your AC adapter into the electrical outlets that most AC aircraft have (not all economy seats have their own outlet, mind). If you need to know where power is available, check out http://www.seatguru.com for seat maps.
