Strange since YYZ-WAW/IST-WAW-YYZ is under 200 miles of YYZ-IST MPM5 and published. I guess AE approximations are very coarse.

I've been a long time "lurker" and have had many of my flying questions answered and now just looking to use up our reward miles for a trip to Europe, to the best I can. 2 of us flying from YUL to Athens and would like to make a couple stops (just about anywhere!) on the way there/back while minimizing the $ of charges (so no AC ideally). I'm just wondering what my best options would be... Should I be searching for a direct flight out of YUL to say, ZRH on SWR and then find a flight to ATH? Or should I be looking at flying through the US for more options?
Thank you in advance,
A reward ticket newbie

Thanks, even though it was well under the 20k mpm0, 21k mpm5, AC must enforce some routing rules like this.
Called in again this morning, dropped the YVR loop and just went YUL-YYZ to end it, and it validated.
Missed the UA SYD-LAX flight since last night which would have cut the travel time significantly and saved a one way ticket.
The following flights were dropped, hopefully they go back into I inventory, if anybody is looking:
9/26/2014 SEA NRT NH1077 13:30 16:00
9/27/2014 NRT AKL NZ90 18:30 9:15
10/28/2014 SYD YVR AC34 10:25 7:30

An interesting thing I did learn from that is how the MPM calculation is done - it's done using the city codes and not the airport code. So if you want to get a precise check of whether you're under MPM or not, use the generic city code (e.g. TYO instead of HND/NRT or SEL instead of ICN/GMP.)
Interesting about the backtracking rule. My experience is that it's been allowed as I've done stuff such as going from NRT-ICN-KIX, but maybe YUL-YVR-YYZ is not allowed?

I only got the ticket number for one.... none on the other. At what point should I follow up?

I am just building an itinerary for a trip to Europe, target 90K miles for all J. I have found availability for the following route piecing it together as one way trips. Would this be considered a valid itinerary:
YWG -> ORD -> WAW -> AMS ... stop
AMS -> TXL ... turnaround
TXL -> ZRH ... stop
ZRH -> IST -> YUL -> YWG
YWG -> ORD -> WAW -> AMS ... stop
AMS -> TXL ... turnaround
TXL -> ZRH ... stop
ZRH -> IST -> YUL -> YWG

mini-rtw questions
Want to book a mini-rtw ticket, hope someone can help me.
I will start from ORD, want to go to AKL.
I hope my first leg to be: ord---icn/pek/pvg (stopover)---akl (des), the second leg would cross the Atlantic, so it will not exceed MPM. The first leg will definitely exceed MPM (9914 miles), so I have to find out a published route. I tried on expert flyer,but only find ord-nrt-akl to be the only available published route. However, I prefer ord-icn/pvg/pek-akl or ord---icn/nrt---pek/pvg---akl.
My questions are:
1:is there a published route as "ord-icn/pvg/pek-akl" or "ord---icn/nrt---pek/pvg---akl"?
2:I have seen somebody have done yul-ord-nrt-tpe-pek-akl. Is it a published route?
Thanks all.

Do you think it might help to call again and try with a different agent?

Considering that she did pretend you could only go through FRA, she could have made other "mistakes", and I would certainly call again.

Thanks got an incredibly helpful and resourceful agent and spent about 3 hours on the phone, but we are very happy with the results. There will be two of us travelling at the end of August/beginning of September with the following flights:
YWG - ORD UA Y
ORD - WAW LO J
WAW - AMS LO J
AMS - ZRH LX J
We will have different returns to fit our vacation availability:
ZRH - IST TK J
IST - YUL TK J
YUL - YWG AC J
and
ZRH - YUL LX J
YUL - YWG AC J
Expense was 90K miles each as well as about $300 taxes and fees each. Yay!
