Best stragegy to ensure an upgrade on an upcoming trip?

On Dec 2 I am going YEG-YOW then on Dec 4th YOW-YYC-YEG.

I'm looking to burn a SSWU on both flights (it'll be the longest flight for the rest of the year that I do) and I have never used a SSWU before. Previously when I've upgraded on a latitude fare, I would upgrade at time of booking, but, now I understand I must wait until 4 days before the flight to try aerolotto?

Do I call 4 days before departure for both flights? Try online? What's the best strategy to ensure I'll be able to use these certs? Fare booking class is S if it helps.

Thanks!

Call as early as possible in the day (i.e. no need to wait until 96 hrs before your flight), four days before the day of your outbound flight. The return flight will require another telephone call.

As per the advice currently running on an alternative thread:

"They upgrade passengers because they are dressed up".

Who knew? Pull out the Armani suit.

Although that may work...but it might be cheaper to just buy J class if you have to go out and buy an Armani suit

But then you wouldn't have an armani suit. With the other method you can have both! apparently...

I am a bit out of touch with using UG certificates. As an SE do I now need to wait 168 hours before my flight time as opposed to being able to call at 12:01 AM Eastern 7 days prior to departure?

There was a typo. "Now" should have been "no", as in "no need".

To clarify ZORN's comments, the upgrade window is based on days, not hours - so you will be alright if you call (and you can upgrade online as well) at 12:01 AM ET.

Of note, with Canadian Airlines (eventually taken over by AC in late 1999), the upgrade temporal window used to be hours based, not days based.

Correct. Sorry for causing any panic/cardiac arrests. NO need. Fingers moving faster than the brain.
