Flt options: Nairobi -> Lilongwe

Hi all,
We have projects to work on in Malawi in the coming years. And as we are investigating various flight scenarios for our teams, it appears that Lilongwe (LLW) is a pricey location to fly into.

We have looked at using DAR, as well as JNB, but appears NBO may be the better option. All of us regularly stick with SkyTeam partners when we can.

Normally flying coach, [May or June 2018, then again in November] we are usually seeing costs in the US$650 to $950 range R/T. Plan to be in-country 6 to 9 days each trip.

Am I missing something? Or is this the norm?

Have been researching with ExpertFlyer, GoogleFlights and ITA Matrix.

Thoughts?

You only mentioned some connecting airports, where will you be flying from?

Nairobi to Malawi (either LLW/BLZ) is always expensive.

The cheapest flights into Malawi are usually from Dar Es Salaam (~$220 RT on Malawian with advance purchase).

Nairobi to Malawi on Kenya Airways is around $500-800 RT range while on Malawian its $300-$500 range.

Johannesburg runs around $500 RT consistently on both Malawian and SAA.

Harare and Lusaka to Malawi on Malawian can also be quite cheap, but flights are often full last minute so can't be counted on.

The most reliable routes to Malawi are via Addis on Ethiopian. Daily flights to both LLW/BLZ and of course the partnership with Malawian so you have plenty of choices and redundancy.

Thank you for all the detail.

As a group, we are currently coming from 4 to 6 different US locations. In the future our teams may be larger with a wider range of starting locations. Our goal is to meet up in either AMS or CDG, then on to NBO. It is possible we all meet in NBO, as some flyers may choose to use airlines outside SkyTeam.

Then all of us on the same flight to LLW.

So, for now, am thinking we stick with using Kenyan Airways NBO->LLW even though it is pricey. Thank you for your consideration.
