Business-Class Lie-Flat-Seats from 2015

Aer Lingus CEO Christoph Müller announced this over on Aero Telegraph:

Ab 2015 bieten wir in der Business-Class Lie-Flat-Sitze an. Dann ziehen wir endgültig mit allen gleich, die über den Nordatlantik fliegen und eine First Class haben.
(From 2015 we will offer Business-Class Lie-Flat-Seats. We will then be equal to all those offering offering first class on transatlantic flights)

Interesting to note that he says that, while Aer Lingus has somewhat missed the boat as regards staking their claim for a larger piece of the transatlantic market, they are seeing an increasing number of passengers connecting from cities that have direct connections - and specifically mentions Paris.

Will they introduce this product on their A330s or wait until they get their A350s around that time frame?

irishguy28 Sep 12, 2013 10:28 am

The A350s aren't due to start arriving until sometime in 2016.

Their j class badly needs an upgrağe compared to its European rivals and the prices they charge

Do you mean just in terms of the seats not being lie flat?

I'm relatively new to J class travel but on recent flights BA J LHR-HKG, CX J HKG-LHR (new business seat) and EI J DUB-BOS, EI won hands down on everything, the only proviso being that I wouldn't want the EI seat on a 12 hour overnight flight, but then they don't currently do that!

Business-Class Lie-Flat-Seats from 2015

EI prices are relatively cheap for TATL J. So god knows what porsche911 is talking about. And the service is fantastic. I never had an empty glass or went hungry.

Disgagree, EI's current business is no worse than SK, AF, or the LH slope. Service tends to me better than most of those.

Ok but compared to vs and BA ?

colmc Sep 14, 2013 12:23 pm

It's a lesser hard product, but look at market it's serving and the premium traffic they can attract.

You're not really comparing like with like.

I believe that the current seat 'can' go flat, so it seems to me that they will end up keeping the current seat but reprogram them for full flat. Probably the most cost efficent way forward for them.
Seems as if a Y+ offering will have to wait for the A350

Maybe it's different ex-Dublin, but from other places the prices are cheap. £1400 in J LON-JFK without a Saturday night stay requirement is a bargain in my book.

Staff & catering way better than BA J, plus the advantage of pre-clearance in Dublin, too.

For the price I'd jump to take them again.

Does anyone know whether these wet-leased 757 have full lie-fat?
I know it's the NEW cabin, but not sure about Business class

So from the photographic evidence, the "new" seat is not lie flat at all - and does not even recline!

There will be no lie-flat seats on any EI aircraft until 2015.
