air lingus charged us 2000 for our 100 upgrade bid
we bid $25 per ticket to upgrade to business class without any real hope of winning. we lost on the flight over, but it was accepted for the return flight. the experience was amazing until we got the visa bill with the$2,000 charge. we sent all the documents to air lingus over a month ago, but beyond the automatic reply have heard nothing.
anyone have any suggestions or similar experiences? (we have also contacted visa)
if anyone is curious about how anyone could think a $25 bid could actually win, i thought it was a clever marketing ploy on the airlines part. we could afford to fly business class but never have, why not show us what we are missing. its also good word of mouth advertising as we have never stopped talking about how great it was.
but its not $700 great, i don't know how they screwed up the bill or the bid because they are not talking to me.
thanks for listening and for any help

Agreed. If EI isn't giving you the time of day despite seemingly overcharging you $1950, then go over their head and dispute the charge with your credit card issuer. If you have the supporting documentation to make your case, it will for sure be settled in your favor.

I'm on a JFK-DUB flight in a couple months, and the site just asked me to bid between $400 and $1200. I bid a little over $400, thinking that others would bid $400 so I'd want to beat them. We'll see!

Beware my brother in law bid $20 for an upgrade which was accepted. He believe this was for the outgoing flight then received a $1400 charge for the upgrade which was very deceiving. They are still waiting to hear back from aerlingus on the charges.

it may depend on how full business class is and who else out of the people in coach bid on it also. I still haven't heard about my flight back from Europe. maybe when I check in tonight at BOS I will find out.
