Thanks. So round-trip ticket BRU-IAD will set me back 90K miles. I just checked United's website and the same itinerary on C class will roughly be 1.6K USD (after taxes) - which is rather steep for me. Now I am thinking to just go with one economy Y/B/Q class reward ticket (60K miles) and purchase Y/B/Q tickets on the United site (800 USD). Redemption rates are 0.017 cent/mile on business vs 0.013 cent/mile on economy.

Hi

Trying to redeem a Europe to MEL flight in J in late September - whilst there seems to be a lot of capacity reedemable on Mileage Plus, A3 advises otherwise and can only really get us to Asia in J, with either connecting on with Y or nothing at all. Call centre advised checking back in a few days.

Anyone been able to get to Australia on A3 redemption, or have any advice?

Thanks

How many connections are you looking at? Apparently you can only have one.

I was looking on the ANA tool and I can't find availability on there at all to MEL - in ANY dates around then. It's a long time away, so maybe more seats will be released later. My preferred routing (if it becomes available) would be Thai, from FCO or ARN as I believe there is no YQ and they fly those routes on their new A350.

The routings you found with only Y on to MEL would be with SQ right? They do seem to be quite mean with releasing their C inventory.

Thanks! That triggered a thought and I realised it was school holidays back in some Australian states hence the lack of availability. When I did speak to Aegean about the onward leg from Singapore, it was in Y - I was very surprised that they had SQ C availability from IST-SIN.

So with a change of dates, ZRH-BKK-MEL on TG now booked, YQ of €49.22 with €20 fee.

Now if only we could get into that Whisky Lounge in ZRH now that we're lowly silvers...!

Far East - Ocenia
I don't see this combination in the award chart of A3. So it means unredeemable for any flights connecting these 2 regions? Am I wrong?

It's there (80k, 110k, 150k). It's just that you have to read down the side first for 'Far East'. I guess they do this to avoid listing everything twice but it can be a little confusing.

What seats were those? Lie-flat or the old VS PE seats?

CMN to IST was meant to be operated by an A330-300 (flat-bed) but was swapped a day earlier to an A330-200 with the angled flat beds. I was little bit disappointed at first but it turned out to be perfectly fine for a 4-5 hour day flight.

IST to OTP was a 738 with a euro-style business class cabin, i.e. empty middle seat. But there were only 2 of us in the 3-row cabin (though they put both solo travellers next to each other across the aisle. Don't know why).

I guess so. You could do it all at one go with a tray in each hand!
