I told the agent that it is showing that it is bookable on Aeroplan, and she said she will give me a call back tomorrow.

Update: The agent called me 5 in the morning today to confirm that the flight can be booked! However, it is not the date that I wanted.

Just booked and ticketed GVA-YUL-YYZ on AC J, for 2 pax, at 90k miles total and 87.28 Euro in fees.

Had an interesting 40 mins walking the agent through the booking, for the first 15 mins she was adamant that a one-way J redemption from Europe to North America was 55K. Each time I kept calmly telling her to look at the award chart, she finally relented and confirmed it was 45k then we moved on with the process haha.

Aside from that, I wasn't sure what the fee break down was, but the Aegean site is pretty awesome now, as soon as I was done with the call my PNR showed up under the "my bookings tab" and the tickets incurred a total of 47.28 euro taxes, with an extra 20 euros per person in fees.

Can someone confirm if the 20 euros fees is per person or per booking? Have a feeling I was overcharged.

You should have been charged EUR 240.39 + the booking fee of EUR 20.00 per person:

- AC YQ surcharge (YQ) €216.75
- Switzerland Airport Passenger Security And Noise Charge (CH) €23.64

You definitely have not been overcharged!

Interesting.

I recently checked for an award flight TLV - YYZ using A3 miles, but the A3 agent told me AC does not release business class seats to them on that flight.

But I don't see why availability should be available to 1 partner, and not to another *A partner.
Are different partners closer than others?

Availability on A3 is a mystery in and of itself. It's not in line with ANYTHING. When i say anything i mean all the available online resources you could possibly use to verify the award space. While all other tools are more or less in line with each other (and by that i mean award space availability as seen by EF, KVS, ANA, UA website, AC website), A3 sees something different almost all the time.

Your best bet is to call them all the time you think of a routing that suits you. And then repeating it everyday till you get lucky or bored ;-)

If you see something at savers award on UA/AP then it should be available. It seems like A3 has a glitch to book premium saver award. The example I provided above shows that other *A carrier might be blocking A3 to book the their ticket temporary.

If you tell the agent that it is bookable using other FFP miles, they will give you a call back within 12 hrs regarding to the flight. However, by that time the premium seat might be gone...

I know how it should work - i also know that it doesn't work the way it's supposed to, hence my post.

Another datapoint - A3 won't allow you to book an OJ as a return ticket. It has it's consequences (good and bad):

Bad:
- if your flight is more then 2 sectors, you'd have to get two separate tickets for travel there and return, hence double the 20 euro fee.

Good:
- If you're in a situation you're traveling from a city with two airports (think Tokyo for example), you can get away with redeeming half the miles booking OW ticket that goes like NRT-XXX-HND.

Yes, unfortunately I believe it is true. All savers award are not share equally among *A partners. Maybe they see A3 as a smaller airline, which generates less revenue compare to larger airlines. And it is not profitable if they release premium seats to them? I am not sure about the real reason, since I can only compare data between Aeroplan and A3.

You can book 2 one-way tickets to make an open jaw.

But this situation is only beneficial if you plan on staying at XXX for less than 24 hrs as per A3'S rule. Also many times, you might not get to spend that much time in XXX because there are only limited amount of flights that flies back to the origin city. I think for most people, they would like to stay at their destination city for more than 24 hrs.

Well, yes, and only when there are direct flights between the destination, and there are only a few cities with two airports, and so on and so forth. But that's the kind of edge case that make for program sweetspots, right? ;-)

Guess what, i booked MNL-BKK-HND Business using miles for TG metal.
I paid 21k miles plus 31 euros for tax and service fee.
For some reason, MPM does not apply... and this is not the first time!
