If you want to look for seats in C that are available for upgrades....these wouldn't work I guess? Use Expertflyer or KVS?

Caveat first ...

Because it's regarded as such terrible value [and I've never been in a fare class that would be upgradable given most are more expensive than buying a (restricted) C class in the first place], I've never tried to use miles to upgrade on *A - so I can't say for definite.

But ... I would guess a miles upgrade is reliant on standard I (redemption) space still being available rather than just a spare revenue seat, therefore a search for award space using the normal websites would be just as effective as Expertflyer or KVS.

Ah, that's what I meant..because I thought expertflyer and KVS were methods to find the I-space. Thanks for that clarification.

Just booked a domestic one-way ticket on UA. Agent spoke good English (better than some UA agents I've dealt with...) and I was quoted 30.90 EUR including the booking fee. So it looks like they're charging the facility fee and the segment tax but thankfully not the 7% excise tax on the full fare--I probably paid about $10 more than I theoretically should have since I really should only have to pay the security tax, but it wasn't worth my time to argue with that (especially since Aeroplan also charges those despite likely issuing way more UA domestic tickets than A3).

Computer did the calculations itself and no manual intervention was needed to remove the excise tax--so looks like they've gotten that sorted out for good (at least for US-domestic tickets, it seems from other posts that they're still charging the sales tax for Canada)

Decided to redeem on OS for Belgrade to Geneva rather than pay for TK, since I'd rather sleep in a hotel than a lounge and the Turkish 9 hour layover made things a little painful. (Cash tickets on OS were running more than twice TK, at about EUR450.)

EUR120 in tax/YQ matched ITA and the extra EUR20 to book on the phone was annoying but expected.

Used awardnexus to spot the seats first but didn't have to give the (heavily accented but perfectly understanding) agent anything beyond route and dates for her to list the options - she had to put me on hold and check about the 11.5 overnight layover though.

Total time to book and pay: 17 minutes. Got the confirmation email before hanging up.

I had to make a trip LON-YYZ on October 31, and booked it with Aegean miles.

I had looked up the YQ and taxes on ITA matrix previously and discovered that flying out of DUB (and buying a LON-DUB one-way on Aer Lingus) was massively cheaper so I quoted DUB-YYZ to the agent. To my surprise, the fees she quoted me did not include YQ on Air Canada; instead it only included the Irish Passenger tax (about 11 euros). I made a point to ask her to check the fees for departures out of LHR and she was happy to do so (it was crazy expensive, around 250 euros). So I ended up having to pay only 31 euros to my complete surprise.

Overall very happy with the experience, though I continue to wonder where the YQ went.

I have a question, there's something bothering me about the A3 program. Is there any way to price out awards online? Just for the sake of planning?

Unlike AA i think A3 website doesn't allow me to plug in some origin and destinations and tell me how many miles would i need, plus the details about flights. Just like AA engine.

I want to be able to plan my things, play a bit here and there, experiment a lot , know how much miles would be required. Just as AA.com works, that i can price out an award without filling a request.

Is there anyway i can do this on A3 own metal? and Star alliance partners?
I need to be able to see all available options before i decide on one.

I have never used ANA tool, is there anything better? I'm a Oneworld person... so this is all new to me, and i have never redeemed anything on Star. I want to be able to price out awards accurately without requesting them. See A3 own metal awards too. Just see all the options so i can choose what i want the best.

No, there is no booking engine you can play around with. It's not hard to determine the number of miles required. Just refer to the award chart. In my experience, the agents have always quoted the correct number of miles so I doubt you'll have to worry about being overcharged.

If you're thinking about getting creative with the routing, note that A3 has a two-segment limit, unless two segments can't get you there. Lack of availability isn't an excuse.

Always search for availability beforehand and build your own routing using the ANA tool (plenty of information if you google). The tool is the most accurate at displaying award space unlike the AC/UA websites which can display phantom space. If the A3 agent insists on booking what the computer says you're probably better off calling back later and hope for a better agent.

Hey guys the 24th Nov is nearing, does anyone know if redemption to *A flights changes too?

I am planning on using my A3 Award Miles for 2015 so far I wanted to use Class F one way for 40,000 and Class J one way for 21000. I read somewhere that I can have 1 segment stopover as long as it is less than 24 hours.

Here is my planned itinerary using SQ metal:
1) HKG-SIN (F); SIN-NRT (F) - use 40k A3 miles plus YQ $218 (AUD);
2) NRT-SIN (J); SIN-MNL (J) - use 21k A3 miles plus YQ $240 (AUD).

What do you think? I checked the availability on SIA website and they are not on waitlist. Any thoughts before I call Aegean redemption?

I doubt that A3 will issue the awards as you're planning it... The A3 awards allow one transfer point and the routing must be withing the MPM... And that's the problem here... you're exceeding the MPM on both ways:
