Free digital newspapers, magazines through PressReader

On AusBT:

Guests at Accor hotels worldwide can now download their favourite newspapers and magazines for free from around the globe to their mobile phone, iPad or tablet via the PressReader app.

Spanning thousands of titles from more than 100 countries and in 60 languages, travellers stopping by Sofitel, Novotel, Mercure and Pullman brands now have free reign over the world’s press, as they do when staying at all other properties under the Accor banner......

I indeed tried this at Sofitel So BKK and Novotel Tunis these last days and they have an incredible choice of newspapers and magazines of every country. The app is not as convenient as AirFrance Press by example, but still a very nice possibility.

This is relatively old news I think (no pun intended!). Over 6 months ago I was given this option when dining at Novotel Wan Chai (Hong Kong). I guess this announcement is an expansion of what a small number of hotels were already offering.

Yup. Had it in the Pullman Xiamen in January. But certainly a nice "to have"

And you get basically nothing with it

Another common point with Accor?

C'est pas vrai! I get plenty of bonus points and benefits with each program. I've booked many free rail trips for family members with my TGV Le Club bonus points and free nights at nice Sofitel and M-Gallery hotels with my Accor points. True I only get upgrades with Accor Platinum and no upgrades with TGV, but there are some benefits.

Well the press reader thingy does not give me anything at the Sofitel I am staying at at the moment. No info in the hotel about the service either.

All accor hotels get complementary access to PressReader?

I stayed at multiple accor hotels (ibis), i can get complementary access to PressReader via hotel wifi.

I am staying in Ibis amsterdam, which i found the hotel wifi will not get complementary access.

Just wanted to know whether this is standard feature across all accor hotels?

Last month I stayed at the Mercure Amsterdam Sloterdijk. Booked a Privilege room that included newspaper. During booking (on accorhotels.com) I filled in the brand of newspaper I wanted.

During my stay (one night) I looked outside my door for the paper which was not to be found (guessed someone took it) at checkout I was told that you do not get an actual newspaper but only through Pressreader.

My opinion is that they should state this in the room details that it is a digital paper (for me to take my iPad with me next time as you can’t read a paper on a phone). Also they should have told me during check in since they should have seen that I requested the Telegraph. And last, having a real paper is different than a digital one, they should not sell it as the same. I prefer the real one.

I email to ask the hotel manager, but they thought i was saying i cannot access to WiFi at room, so they asked me to go down to lobby to use WiFi.

Seems they don't know what is press reader.
